I have been chatting with an atheist over email who says she is very spiritual and thinks that most other atheists would define themselves this way. So, would you? Thanks!

To clarify: I'm the atheist mentioned here, and my definition is a sense of wonder, and of connection to nature and humanity.

and I didn't say very, just that I'm not aspiritual.

edit: s'okay, Ent. didn't think that was your intention. : )

I don't think spiritual would be the right word, since atheists typically don't believe in the existance of a soul. I think we can still be awestruck at the beauty and complexity of nature, even though we know that it wasn't designed by anyone.

I'm an atheist and I think I am a very non-spiritual person. I try to be analytical. But of course, I am only human and might have my weak moments ... :)

i do no longer likely comprehend the place you're coming from. you're in all places, leaping from subject depend to subject depend and from argument to counter-argument... yet i'm going to attempt to respond to what i've got picked up. I do agree certainly that atheism is a puzzling label. rather a substantial reason I save coming lower back right it incredibly is with the help of the fact it is so thrilling to debate what it ability precisely and individuals have this kind of great form of distinctive conceptions of it. i might self-prepare the observe atheist. yet, i would not use it except asked approximately faith, because it would not incredibly clarify something approximately me aside from my stance on faith.

I'm not what I'd call spiritual but I do believe somewhat in the supernatural. That just doesn't include deities.

I DON'T KNOW IF I AM AN ATHEIST.BUT I HAVE A FEW PEOPLE KNOWN TO ME WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS AN ATHEIST.AND I FIND THAT MANY OF THEM ARE MOSTLY HARDWORKING, SINCERE, TRUTHFUL, BOLD, ANALYTICAL ,HUMANE, SENSIBLE, PRACTICAL,COMPASSIONATE, SENSITIVE (ESPECIALLY TO HYPOCRITICAL EXPERIENCES) ,INTELLECTUAL, PROACTIVE SERVICE MINDED, SOCIALLY AWARE,AND WITH MOST OTHER ADMIRABLE QUALITIES THAT I WOULD LOVE CALLING THEM SPIRITUAL IF THEY WOULD NOT MIND.PROBABLY SUCH PEOPLE AND THE REST OF US ALL KNOW THAT THEY ARE INDEED SPIRITUAL IN THE REAL SENSE OF THE TERM!!

Not in the slightest, and I have no idea what she's talking about. I have spirit towards life and living this short story we get to create with our actions, but I don't have a spiritual cell in my body.
P.S. Sweet colon placement. ;-)

i can see where science and spirituality can meet, i think that is the point. i think many have an idea of spirit and soul etc, but nothing that would be considered doctrine or religion. thomas
