Actually... it doesn't say that exactly...
If you read all of the first chapter of the book of Genesis, you will see the creation story... and then Chapter 2 opens with these words: 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
...And that's where we get that he created everything in six days. However as we read further in Chapter 2, we find a more detailed account of the creation of Man... and his placement in the garden... it isn't until after all of creation was completed and God decided that man shouldn't be alone that woman was created (check Genesis 2:18-22). So Woman was actually created by taking a rib from the man...
A quick note to all the fellas out there... take notice of where the woman came from... she did not come from the man's head... so she's not over him... she did not come from the man's foot... so she is not to be walked on.... she came from man's rib... she's to be beside you... take care of her and she will take care of you.

It doesn't say that. The "heavens and the earth" were already in existence BEFORE the creative days started. See Gen. 1:2. The 6 creative days were vast time periods in which the earth was prepared for human habitation, which came at the end of the 6th day. The earth could have been around for millions of years before that.
