just in case: the statement "to punish homosexuals" is wrong because AIDS kills lots of heterosexuals too.

If God created the world according to Christians, and AIDS is something in the world, then God must have created AIDS. AIDS itself is not inherintly evil, so it cannot be attributed to Satan.

We could extend this argument to other diseases as well, but I was wondering how a disease as horrible as AIDS could be explained?

It's possible to get the disease without knowing by getting married to someone who has it but doesn't know. So what's the logic here?

I read a very moving letter from the father of a down-syndrome child once.
I will paraphrase what he said:
Where is the perfection in my child? Why would a loving God bring my son into this world with such a horrible affliction? He pondered this for many years as he watched his son grow up and interact, and then it occurred to him.
The kindness that showed in people's eyes when they looked at him, the spirit of goodwill and charity that arose when the other kids let his son play baseball and score a "home run," these were the things that God wanted to see, the things he was looking for.
His son was born with down syndrome so that others may be given the opportunity to share their love, their faith, and their charity with him.
It is through the triumph of evil that God's grace, love, mercy, and goodness shine through.

Hope this answers your question.

Actually... there is a bit of a problem with the premise here: God did not create AIDS... what God did was create an environment where AIDS could exist, and (sadly) gave us the ability to create it.

Please understand that when God created the world, it was perfectly fine... so much so that it didn't even have to rain (according to the Bible, a dew-like mist watered the earth). God gave control of the earth over to man, and with it, he gave intructions on how to keep everything flowing beautifully like it was... and... well... man messed it up. And everything that followed was the result of man's choice to disobey God.

COULD God have stopped AIDS from existing??? Sure... but we wanted it... (don't shoot me, just hear me out). We (Man really... back in the garden) made the choice not to do what God said... and by making that choice, he invited everything that God did not intend for us... including death and its various avenues.

So, no, we can't blame God for AIDS... or Cancer... or 9/11... or crazed out messed up self absorbed people who claim they are prophets and end up leading hordes of people to their own demise... we can blame our single ancestor for the fact that these things exist... and we can blame ourselves (as a society) for allowing things to continue to get worse.

But don't worry... our lease has almost expired and the owner is returning to take control of his property once again. (Yeah, I've been reading Real Estate books... sue me)

Targeting AIDS isn't fair, many, many more diseases humans get doesn't have anything to do with the manner the person contacts the disease.

Better ask God himself such questions. Poor human beings are not capable of answering the deeds of God. Anyway, a guess - to control the human population.

If God was handing out verenerial diseases as punishments for sinning, every church on the planet would double as a free clinic

That's a fairly accusatory and prejudiced question, don't you think? Are you telling me, a Christian, what my logic is?

A cull on you snivelling little humans, and well over due too. Designed to take out the horrid little ones that stick their thingies in places their thingies aren't supposed to be stuck, admittedly, the fact that it has spread to innocent women and children is a bummer....but hey, you lot were spreading like mold.
