I will not pick up a King James Version of a Bible. Many people cannot understand it and some don't even realize what is even says. It is written in Old English and that varies greaty from Modern English. Don't give the garbage that it was the first transalation so it is the best. It wasn't the first. John Wycliffe made the first "English" bible. Things get put out more when it has a name on it. I read the New Living Translation of the Bible it is easy to understand. King James verision was NOT translated from the orginal text of the Bible. The New Living Translation ,NIV, The Message and so on was translated from the orginal Greek texts. Going back to "Old English" it is not what it appears to be by any means i have learned a great deal about Old English and words mean totally different things. Now it is time for your own opinion.

Tradition and/or legalism. People who read the King James only have a closed mind and think that it is "holy" to read all the thees and thoughs and shalls, but we aren't taught old english in school therefore there will be passages that don't make sense in old english. I know people who are quite content not to know what a passage is talking about even though it might make sense if they read another version. I read NIV primarily, but also read NASB,CEV, and sometimes the message to get more meaning or a different nuance..

The King James Version was not written until the 16th Century, which is 16 Centuries after the fact. Further, it was instructed to be written as ordained by King James by either William Shakespeare, or Sir Francis Bacon for the strict purpose to reflect the monumental powers of King James, the ability to rewrite the Bible!!!!

Because out of ignorance some people think thats the way they spoke back then and some other ignorant people see the 'authorized version' on it and take that to mean that god authorized it, which he didn't. One version is as good as another, whichever one you like is the one to use. I think a lot of people will look and feel really stupid when they stand before god and talk in 1611 english

A lot of people like the language. But I have no particular use for it. For addressing questions here, I use The Bible: An American Translation, University of Chicago Press, 1931. It does not have the names cluttered with the wretched diacritical marks -- which drive me bananas. Of course, it is always necessary to remember that it is fiction.

To each his own.I'm not one of those "KJV only" folks, but I do enjoy the style of language used.If I'm reading at church or a Christian group,I will use my NIV or Good News. The most important thing is that you understand it.

They don't. Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses and Jews each have their own translations of the Bible, just to name a few.

OK i read them both, NIV and KJ why, the NIV is easy and fast to understand but the KJ is more pure and you can take each word back to the original in the Strong's concordance and get the deeper meaning! The NIV has taken the word "sodomite" out of it because the powers to be are a bunch of homos!
