There are a lot of safety features. Actually, a plane is very well checked before takeoff such as flaps, engine conditions and the amount of fuel. So this depends on the pilot and the engineers. Your question is undefined. In what way do you mean safe?

basic aerodynamics coupled with complex computer/mechanical systems that can fail in millions of ways. add in human pilots and its a wonder people still fly at all.
