A placebo is a the term used to describe a non
action causing drug used in a controled test experiment versus a real drug to measure its true effectiveness. in other words a doctor gives 10 people with the same illness a drug used to treat them. and he then gives another 10 people with the same illness a sugar pill [a placebo] but the patient thinks its the real drug.
and when all is said and done they tally up the results, see how many did this or that vs those that only had the placebo. hope this helps !

its a fake. As in the case of a placebo in medicine it is a fake pill. During human testing of a medicine one group, the control group, is given a placebo, a fake dose of medicine. They do not know they are not getting the real thing. This will give the docs something to compare to and see if the real medicine actually works. If your life depends on experimental treatment you do not want to be in the control group but like I said you really do not have a choice. Interesting though drugs like prozac had an 80% effectiveness in treating depression, so did the placebo.

Placebo started in an experiment a doctor was doing.. he wanted to see just how much of our illnesses are in our minds.. So he took two groups of people. He gave one group the actual medication for their symptoms, and he gave the other group Tylenol or something like that. He watched both groups and noticed that the group taking the placebo had more than one person saying that the medication helped their symptoms.. It was actually a really cool experiment.
