Sigh....I don't want to be a jerk, but it's no coincidence that religion is declining as intelligence is on the rise.

It could be a number of reasons.
Our world is based on money and greed. Commericalism wants people to stay at home, watch tv and spend money. This is in contrast with religious endeavors. The Catholic preaches that we should be willing to give up our money and possessions and live among the poor. The secular world wants us to worry about our self-pleasure and greed.
Some people have bad experiences with the Catholic Church and hold grudge. The Church have done many wrongs over the years to it's own members. Rather than admit this wrongs and ask for forgiveness, the Church has simply swept it under the rug.
Most Churches have rejected their young adults and now are paying for it. Rather than give reasons for a young adults to continue to be involved, they just to choose to ignore a young adult's spiritual needs and have nothing to do with them. This hurts the Church since the Church need money and the young adults are the ones who are working.
Plus years ago, it was a major sin to miss Mass. But since Vatican II, we no longer feel the need to attend Mass for our own good. We just put God and Mass on the backburner and get around to attending when we feel like it.

There are many reasons such as the following
1) priest's sermons does not have power.
2) lots of controversy regarding priest involvement on rape, child molestations, corruptions and abuse of power.
3) with the advent of technology, history inlighten people on subjects such as inquisitions, crussades, forced conversion, controversy.
4) Catholicism does not bring peace and harmony even in the center of the catholic church organization.
5) Catholic leaders does not persecute, nor punish nor excommunicate their priest involve in rape, corruption, abuse of power, and molestation. instead they made all possible coverups, and the use millions of US dollars to settle their sex abuse victims.
6) With the available copies of bible, people realize that catholic teachings does not conform with the scriptures.
7) and many many many many many more, Bro. Eli can discuss this more on http://www.truthcaster.com

There is definitely an increase in materialistic attitudes in society. Spirituality and allied ideas, are becoming old-fashioned. The road ahead, presents a grim outlook for all those who really care for civilization as we knew it just about, say, 50 years ago...Selfishness, individual and collective egos, are on the rise. Each ego, tries to prove itself stronger than the other. So individuals fight, while countries wage war against each other.

Mostly for the same reason people don't go to the gym. People have good intentions, but when Sunday comes around, people oversleep, don't feel like getting up, etc. Then there are people who object with particular religions, or just religion in general. People will either have the faith and inspiration to go, or they won't. Don't let it bother you.

not to judge these people who are no longer attending mass but maybe just maybe they don't feel like it is an obligation to do so. i mean when you think about it it doesn't seem right that we attend mass because we have to or that we feel obliged to do so right. instead we do it because we want to, because it is something that needs not to be ordered for us to do so. and not attending the mass doesn't necessarily mean that you are putting a gap in your relationship with the one up there, right? it is on our faith that i think makes our bond with him stronger or greater.

There are no churches that cater to my religion in my area. Lots of other people see their religion as a personal matter, and others simply don't believe in god.
