*** Awake! November 22, 1966 ***
There is no place in the Bible that encourages one to try to link the letters of certain words with mystical numbers in order to uncover mystical truths. Such a practice originates, not with the Bible, but in ancient Babylon.

Revelation 13:18

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath (understanding) AN EAR count the number of the beast.- 'Here is scope for ingenuity. Let people of shrewd intelligence calculate the number of the Wild Beast; for it indicates a certain man, and his number is 666.'- Weym.

For it is the number of a man.— The Man of Sin, the Papacy.— Rev.19:20; 2 Thess, 2:3. (And his number is) Six hundred threescore and six.- In the Greek this number is six hundred (represented by the Greek letter 2), plus sixty (represented by the Greek letter ), plus sixty (represented by the Greek letter +). It is not as though it read six plus six plus six.

There is no logic in this question.

It is the BIBLE ITSELF which explicitly mentions the number "666".

The number "666" is certainly *NOT* somehow derived by encouraging anyone "to try to link the letters of certain words with mystical numbers in order to uncover mystical truths".

You're not making any sense. I don't see how they are denouncing their own teaching. They simply said that 'linking the letters of certain words with mystical numbers' is not the Biblical way to uncover truths. An example of what that quote is talking about is the belief that 666 = Vicarius Filii Dei (which numbers add up to 666).

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that Vicarius Filii Dei is 666. They believe that 666 is a representative number of evil and monstrousity (Revelation 13:8; 2 Samuel 21:20) Therefore, I don't think you know what you are talking about.

And if you are going to quote things from the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses, try quoting from their current magazines instead of an article that is 40 years old. You will find that over the years, God's people have been refined very much (Proverbs 4:18; Zechariah 13:9) ALL religions refine their beliefs from time to time. No one is perfect. No one is born with full knowledge and understanding. A long time ago "Christians" believed that the earth was flat.

I'm not sure of your motives, but when many people attack Jehovah's Witnesses, either with force or with word of mouth, it is because they are doing God's work of 'preaching the good news to all the nations', just as Jesus commanded them to (Matthew 24:14; 28;19, 20). In fact, that is the purpose of the Christian congregation (2 Peter 2:9; Romans 10:13-15) How active is your congregation in going from house to house? -Acts 5:42

What is the meaning of the mark, or name, of “the wild beast”—the number 666?
This mark is mentioned at Revelation 13:16-18. The beast refers to human rulership, and the beast’s bearing “a man’s number” indicates that governments reflect the fallen human condition. The 6 plus 60 plus 600 shows that it is utterly deficient in God’s eyes. Those who bear this mark give worshipful honor to the political State, or they look to it for salvation

There is nothing written on the Papal Mitre, nor on the formerly used papal crown. there was an inscription on a crown given to the Pope in the middle ages, but that was never used by the Pope, it was merely a gift. Vicarius Filii Dei does add up to 666 in Latin: Vicarius=112; Filii=53, Dei=501. (Ignore letters which are not assigned a numerical value.) The problem is that Vicarius Filii Dei is not a title of the Pope. One of his titles, in fact his chief title, is Vicarius Christi (Vicar of Christ), but, unfortunately for Seventh-Day Adventists and other anti-Catholics who attempt to use this ploy, Vicarius Christi adds up to only a measly 214, not the infernal 666 So the Catholic Church is not the Beast

The Bible warns us to try the spirits to know if they are of God.

In the Bible, the Jehovah's Witnesses claim they live by 100%, it tells us that a false prophet is the very spirit of antichrist.
And furthermore, that ANYONE who gives a word of prophecy that does NOT come to pass, is then a false prophet.
HOW MANY things do they have to say that do NOT come to pass, before anyone sees it for what it is?

Simply by reading we can try the spirits in this case. We don't even have to meditate on it because it is too clear already. They are confused and decieved. They are decieved by the very spirit of antichrist.

They profess that the world will not see the Battle of Armeageddon, but will live in peace on earth without there being any final war. This is NOT SO according to the Bible, and if they are waiting on a man with a plan? Then they will fall for the very antichrist, the same one their prophecies are of.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it. There can be nothing more clear, yet there are so many who WILL fall for anything EXCEPT God in these last days. It is merely a sign of the times, as well as the Word.

References to 666 or "the beast" in Revelations is symbolic, not to be taken literally.

Six = Imperfection, the number for humanity
Mark of the beast = The unevolved animalistic force within humans
666 = The unevolved animalistic force affecting the triune nature of humans (body, mind, spirit)

I am only going to address the latter half of your "question" as it is the funny part. You seem to want to condemn us for making changes and corrections as we learn. What is wrong with learning. The point is we ARE learning. We do not do allot of things we once did. Is not the point of being a student to learn Facts??

Leave the poor Catholics alone

I saw the souls underneath the altar who had been beheaded for their faith.

The Catholics do not force people to join or be beheaded.

But I know of a religion today that does

do you?
