I asked my sons oncologist about the incidences of cancer in a family and she said that unless it is the same type of cancer than there is little connection. Looks like you are just looking at unfortunate coincidences.

Hope you have better luck soon.

Yikes! While there IS a genetic component to some types of cancer, others we know are linked to environmental factors.

Did any of these people smoke? Are they overweight? Do they eat a lot of healthy fruits, fibre, and veggies? Or do they eat a lot of trans fats and meat? Making healthy choices can reduce your risk for most types of cancer.

Unfortunately, cancer is growing due to unhealthy lifestyles and environmental toxins. It is possible that your family has been exposed to carcinogens where they live. Pollution and other triggers may be a huge factor here. For example, in the US, milk has added hormones.

Cervical cancer (most cases) has been now linked to HPV, a virus usually spread through sexual contact. We have a vaccine for it now that will help prevent this type of cancer.

Don't panic yet. Some types of cancer you can be screened for with genetic testing. Perhaps you don't even have any high risk genes. Then all you need to do is keep up with a healthy lifestyle to stay healthy. Ask your doctor. Also, join a support group for those touched by cancer.

P.S. Feb.5 th is my b-day. I will keep her in my thoughts.

The four major types of treatment are surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. These treatments are sometimes used alone and sometimes in combination. When one treatment is used to supplement another, the supplementary treatment is called adjuvant therapy.

Surgery -- the removal of a malignant tumor in an operation -- is the oldest and most frequently used cancer treatment. It is most effective when a cancer is small and localized (confined to one area of the body). If a tumor has spread, the nearby tissues and lymph glands are removed along with the malignant growth in an operation called radical surgery.

Radiation works by destroying cancer cells. It can take two different forms -- external and internal. In external beam radiation, a machine sends x-rays or gamma rays into the tumor. In internal radiation, a radioactive substance, like radium, is put into the body by means of a pill, injection or insertion in a sealed container. Radiation is often used alone in cases where a tumor is unsuitable for surgery or particularly receptive to destruction through radiation. It may also be used in conjunction with surgery (before and after) and sometimes with chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy kills cancer cells through the use of drugs or hormones. Taken either orally or through injection, chemotherapeutic agents are used to treat a wide variety of cancers. They may be given alone or in combination with surgery or radiation or both. Chemotherapy is an established way to destroy hard-to-detect cancer cells that have spread and are circulating in the body.

Immunotherapy uses the body's own immune system to destroy cancer cells. This form of treatment is still being intensively studied in clinical trials; it is not yet widely available to most cancer patients. The various immunological agents used include substances produced by the body (such as the interferons, the interleukins and tumor necrosis factor) and laboratory-produced substances (such as monoclonal antibodies and vaccines). Immunological agents work in different ways and can be used independently or in combination with other forms of treatment.

Some people hesitate to take advantage of the best type of treatment for their cancer because they fear the possible side effects. It is true that people undergoing radiation or chemotherapy often experience such symptoms as fatigue, loss of appetite, skin problems, hair loss, nausea or oral/dental problems. The severity of these conditions, however, varies from one patient to the next and many times can be controlled. In any case, the side effects of cancer therapy usually are not permanent conditions and enduring them for a time is well worth the potential benefit of effective treatment.

Hey calm down. There are many ways to treat cancers.Surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy all cause serious side effects and weaken the immune system. If sumone tells u that the side effects aren't permanant, then they r wrong becuz the treatments will actually shorten one's life expectancy. When the treatments aim to kill cancer cells, normal and healthy cells are also inevitably destroyed which is really damaging to ur health. You should not choose them unless the situation is very urgent. Why don't u try natural treatment. They cause no side effects.Go check a natural health food product called NCD--Natural Cellular Defense--which was released in August 2005 in USA.It's still very new so many poeple don't know it yet. However, doctors have proved its amazing ability. They offered NCD treatments to about 75 different types of cancer patients including brain cancers, lungs cancers, kidney cancers, breast cancers. They were waiting for death after negative responses to surgeries, radiations, etc. But then this NCD was a miracle to them. After taking the thing for about 2 to 3 months,65 of these patients have fully recovered from their cancers and this shocked the medical history for it has such a high curing rate--about 80 to 90 %--even higher than the most advanced medical technologies nowadays.
In Hong Kong where i live, there r uncountable cases of cancer patients who have recovered from or have great improvement on cancer. This NCD can cure all types of cancers. It's in fact a mineral substance emmitted from the volcanoes so it's 100%natural.There was a woman in St.Mary Hospital HK who had 4 types of cancers at the same time and was about to die after useless surgeries and harmful treatments that caused her dry mouth, loss of hair(radiation caused that),weak bones(medicines containing steroids caused that) that can snap every moment she walks and of coz great pain. She was then introduced to NCD.After about 3 months, she felt no pain anymore.Later, the medical report shocked the doctors by showing 87 % of her cancer cells were killed.Sooner or later,NCD will be the next weapon to cure cancers when it becomes well-known.I hope doctors from around the world will work hard to show it to the sick.
If u wanna know how NCD works in the human body, feel free to contact me at yield_life@yahoo.com.hk or check online.Send me an email anytime u like so i can help u like i've been doing to my family and friends.^_^God bless you.

I understand what you're going through. I lost both my maternal grandparents to cancer. My paternal aunt, one of my cousins, and myself have all survived different forms. There's nothing to do at this point, but hope it doesn't come back to any of us and hope no one else gets it.

I live in AZ, the warm weather doesn't help
