There isn't really any type of a time frame, I agree. Next comes an honest look at your own feelings and what you really want in a guy. Are you sure that this particular guy is not only filling a void that you have from your last boyfriend or loneliness of being single? I know you say you are out of love with your ex, but do you like this new guy because he is giving you what you need right now? Examples: doing new things that your ex would never try, taking you out to restaurants your ex would never splurge on, being extremely lustful because you are both getting to know one another and it is new.
Think back on what you ALWAYS knew you wanted in a guy and see if he is it. Maybe he is, which is great. You just don't want to end up 5-6 months down the road and realize that he really isn't what you always wanted/needed.
Trust your heart....but listen to your mind.

I broke up with my bf of 2 years and got a new man a week later. It took me 8 more months beofre the crying stopped and the calls, e-mails, etc. It takes time to get over someone, although you never really know how much. I say wait at least a few months just to find yourself before diving into a new relationship. Just to be fair to you and the new man. If this guy is really into you then he will understand and he will wait.

you can start seeing other people when you think you are ready
when you think you are ready... physical, emotional, social... holistically... then you can start dating again
whether it be the next day after the break up or a year after that as long as you know for your own self that you are already ok to date then why not...
when there is no more guilt in your heart that what you may be doing is wrong....

there's no time I guess, as long as you're aware of what you're doing, and you're not hooking up out of deception...that's when people end up hurt. but in your case it seems like you're really interested in this guy, go for it....give yourself a chance ;)
