You're in good company, there's a huge variety of opinions on hell among well known Christians. CS Lewis for example thinks it's the same place as heaven but only those who wanted a relationship with God (the definition of light, life, goodness, beauty, truth, etc) on earth will see the concentration of this God in the world after death.

People used to think of Christianity like it was a brick wall where if you missed out one of the bricks the whole thing would fall down.

However now people are realising that it's more like a trampoline where the springs represent doctrine. So even if I am wrong and there is no hell or you are wrong and there is, it doesn't stop you being a Christian and having a relationship with Jesus, I just might not be able to jump as high as if I had a truer picture of what Jesus has done and who God is.

Whether you believe in hell or not is irrelevant to your salvation. But the problem is why don't you believe in hell. Jesus taught that those who reject Him will be punished for eternity in hell. If you believe in Jesus why do you not believe His teachings? I suspect you are a babe in Christ and need to get into the Word of God to know Jesus to be able to serve Him better. Something about " a workman needing not to be ashamed" comes to mind. However, it is possible that your belief in Him is only superficial. Your belief might not be a saving belief, that is, you might need to come to Jesus for salvation. Many people in this world think they are Christians when in fact they are not. The Bible says to examine one's faith to see if you are even in the faith. This could be your problem. When it comes to eternal issues with God there is nothing left up to chance. There is no guesswork. You are either trusting in the Lord Christ and will spend eternity with Him as a member of His Church, His bride, or you will spend eternity in hell where it won't be pleasant and I need not say more. Make sure of heaven. And study to show thyself approved unto God. These instuctions were given to Timothy by the Apostle Paul and apply to us today.

I read this book called divine revelations of hell. Check it out a quick read. Well, it described hell so vividly I cried the entire time I was reading this book.

I wouldn't wish hell on anyone and honestly it made it hard for me to believe there is a hell, a place is so destructive so hateful, so filthy, and so unbearable. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question, but what I’ve come to realize when there are no answers to my questions I realize some things at the moment are beyond my understanding until God wants to bring understanding to me.

You say you believe in Jesus Christ, then you should believe in hell because Jesus spoke of it. If you believe in Him, then you should believe what He said. Jesus spoke of hell many times in parables, so you have to understand what He was saying. Anytime there is a reference to weeds, etc. being gathered and thrown into the fire, it is actually speaking of the lost souls that will be gathered and thrown into the lake of fire (hell). As I say, if you believe in Jesus, why don't you believe in hell when He talked about it Himself.

If a person's faith is based on the truth revealed in the bible then the whole bible has to be accepted. Taken in bits and pieces the bible can be used to justify practically any belief by anyone no matter what they want to use it for.

First, if you believe in Jesus then you have to accept hell.
Second, if you believe in Jesus and accept the salvation offered then its a moot point, not worth talking about, if you believe in Jesus and don't accept the salvation offered then you'll find out for yourself and its still a moot point.

If you believe in Jesus Christ but do not believe in Hell you called Jesus a liar, because He clearly teaches there is a Hell. How can you believe in Jesus but not believe what he says?

Matt 5:29
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell .

Matt 10:28
28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell .
ESV

Matt 16:18
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell

Your faith in Christ should carry you through -- but you may want to rethink your stance on hell.

After all, it's mentioned over two dozen times in the New Testament.

Many of those times, it's mentioned by Jesus Himself.

If you believe in salvation through Christ, then you don't need to worry about hell because you wont go there......... HOWEVER if you think you will go to heaven even if you don't believe in salvation through Christ, then Jesus means absolutely nothing.
