I was accepted into USC on jan 29(today). I have heard that this means I am probably a candidate for the president or trustee scholarships. Is this true? When will I be notified? Also, inside my booklet, it says I was one of the top 2650 out of 34000 applicants, but USC's acceptance rate is much higher so what is this supposed to mean?

thanks,

Well known schools tend to be a bit more competitive in regards to the grades and test scores of those who were accepted. Many use a hollistic approach to admissions which viewing the entire applicant. I recommend applying for outside grants and scholarships to be on the safe side. There are free sources to locate them.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into need based financial aid based on family income and financial resources from the state and federal governments along with the college itself. The deadline is in 31 days.

Second the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships for its current high school students.

Third, USC has a searchable database of scholarships and grants. Also there is a work study program if you need an income during the school year.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search webistes. There are scholarships on many things including ethnicity, religion, hobbies, and even a scholarship for wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered into a form on the website.

Good luck!
