Was it difficult to get out of the lifestyle?

I just finished watching "Jesus Camp" and it got me thinking that it must be really hard for kids to get away from an entire community of whackos...

The movie is really great because it shows how people think in these rural areas - they really believe in what they are saying but they seem so misled.

I'm not down on just christians - any religion has these ignorant extremist groups... people that are not really practicing the principles behind the text.

sorry - I guess there are some religions that do not have ignorant extremist groups. The kind that get kids to do the illegal stuff so they don't go to jail...

-but all the most popular ones do.

all churches engage in mind control to a certain degree - any time there's a punishment attached to non-conformity it's bad.

I got into an extremist church about 6 years ago (left after a year a half), and I still find myself thinking/doing the things that I deemed wrong that I learned there.

I'm sorry for your bad experience about church. But my church never control my mind. We're welcomed to come and go here. So bad this kind of church (mine) didn't come to your area/society.

Absolutely! It was the Church of San Francisco Christian church. They were very legalistic and told me that if I didn't memorize the bible, I was going to hell.

Yes. My parents were actually asked to make me sit in service with them as they didn't want me attending Sunday school any longer. I asked too may questions they couldn't answer. I guess I was shaking their fragile foundation.

Of course. Church and religion is, by definition, all about mind control. The moment you see and think is the moment that you move on.
