Well, I believe they have done studies with very hard rock next to plants, and the plants didn't care for it at all. I used to be able to listen to a bigger variety of music when I was younger, but with Classical music training becoming more and more important to me, I actually have a more severe aversion to some music now than I used to. There is a whole field called music therapy, and I believe that they say there are specific instruments which are more soothing to the spirit and mind than others. Harp music ranks way up there, as well as flute and violin and piano and organ. I know gyms often play hard rock music thinking it will energize the people who come in there, but for me it has just the opposite effect and wears me out faster. On the other side of the spectrum, a really long opera will wear me out as well unless I know what's going on in the performance. I believe that some music is inspired of God, and some music is inspired by Satan. That is not to say rock is evil, however, because you also have to analyze the lyrics and see what the music is talking about as well. In general, I avoid music that makes me tired, which includes most heavy metal (but not all) and violent or misogynistic rap. I will listen to just about any other genre. I believe there was a newspaper article a couple of months ago that showed a strong correlation between listening to suggestive lyrics over a few years and the likelihood of teens to engage in inappropriate sexual behavior (in other words, breaking the law of chastity) and there was a definite correlation there. If string theory is a reality in how the universe operates, perhaps we should make a bigger effort to seek out music which has an emphasis on harmony and cohesiveness rather than dissonance and divisiveness. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

I read a study in Science News back in the 80's that claimed that pregnant women who put earphones on their wombs and played Mozart to their babies had babies with statistically higher IQs.

I would answer your question "yes." Music is a power medium that certainly affect our moods and thought patterns. As to whether or not all music is good, I would answer you this way.
God loves all music, He just doesn't care for all the lyrics.

Great question, thanks!
