my trainer who has a great body(he went to a university and became a phys ed teacher and now is a personal trainer). He gave me a list of what to eat. I added it up on CalorieKing.com and it was 1020 which is way below 1200( the lowest amount recommend). So did I do something wrong? Here's the list.

1 packet of plain oatmeal with 4 strawberries in it. with one cup of skim milk
1 hard boiled egg
Chicken Caesar Salad(no dressing, cheese or croutons
one orange
Light n fit yogrut carb and sugar control
steamed vegetables with a piece of chicken or talapia(fish), 4 oz
1 hard boiled egg

This seems like not much even though he told me to eat every 2 hours. Is this too low because I am paying him a lot to personally train me so I can tone myself up. I want to eat enough calories and not lose muscle.

My trainer was under the impression that it was 1300 cals he gave me. He gave me some options and I forgot to write a few things like orange juice. I also added an apple,an extra hard boiled egg and a nature's valley bar, that comes up to 1740. I guess when my weights get heavier I'll ask him about added more protien/meat into my food consumption:-) thanks everybody.

yikes, yeah nutrition is definetly not the strong point of your trainer. that diet is not the best. there's no fats except for that in the eggs and hardly any fiber, you must be starving all the time.

how did he even determine your caloric intake?

I use both direct and indirect calorimetry with my clients, it's the only way.

You need to talk to a nutritionist. Personal Trainers do not normally give specific diet advice, they work with nutritionists. Unless he has been trained and certified (whatever your state requires for nutritionists, some are nurses, some have even more training than an R.N.) You can talk to your doctor about getting a referral to a nutritionist in your area.

Also, first thing - Ask your trainer WHY he gave you that specific diet. Did he work with a nutritionist to create that as a 'Week 1' intensive start to training diet? (some week 1 diets are as low as 800 calories) Is it something he uses when he wants to get to a new level with his body? (that would be a problem, because what will work for him will not work for you - you are trying to get there - he is already there.) Whatever the reason you may find that he can explain to your satisfaction that this is a short term cleansing diet or ~~. Or you will be able to explain to him that you have had 'blood sugar problems' in the past and need to work with a nutritionist on your diet.

If your nutritionist works out for you, you may be able to introduce the two of them to each other and they can refer clients.

Hope this all works out for you!

1. Doesn't matter what he looks like. That means almost nothing.
2. Those numbers seem about right for those foods. I think you entered it correctly.

The suggestion seems too low to me, as well, but it depends almost entirely on your goals, your current size, the pace of the weight loss he seems to be suggesting, etc.

Chances are, he didn't do the math. I think he listed out the foods, but didn't stop to think about it. It's nowhere near enough. And that's pretty weak.

With even a basic level of activity, though, even 1500 calories is extremely low. Also, that kind of diet is a recipe for lost lean mass and not fat loss.

So my point is: I can't imagine a client for whom less than 1400 calories would be approriate.

If most of the info on losing weight was not wrong then America would not be the fattest society to ever exist. You are responsible for your own body.

Diets do not work. 99% of people gain the weight back. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.

But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note-- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.

So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. Learn how to nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. See site below.
