Most active duty personnel will tell you that the job has to be done, if it is to be done right... even most of those who might not necessarily agree with the current political games going on. If you ask someone who has actually BEEN to Iraq or is there now, you'll get even a more unanimous response. I didn't like being there when I was there, and I absolutely hated being away from my wife... but I did feel like I was making a difference, because I could literally see the fruition of my efforts; work that I did was something that I later directly saw the outcome of. You don't ever see THAT on CNN, not surprisingly, but people with common sense know better than to trust what news networks choose to show their viewers. You can agree with the reasons behind the original war or not, but the current war is now a totally different matter, and if there is to be stability and peace, succumbing to the lazy, easy choice is the wrong answer, even if that isn't what people want to hear. What NEEDS to be done is for the job to be finished, and sometimes a job takes a long time to do, if it is to be done well. Quick-and-easy just doesn't cut it in the real world.

I am the wife of an active duty soldier. He is over there now doing his job. Most of the soldiers I have talked to feel that what we are doing over there is important and as you said "NEEDS TO BE DONE." And for most, they are very proud of what they do over there and if we abandon the job now, not only will our country be the worse for it, but all those that have given their lives will have been for nothing. They have to finish the job to honor fallen commrades if for nothing else. Of course they want to come home, but what good will that do if our country is going to be in more danger if they do so now. Some do have trouble dealing with being over there more than others, and it's not always due to wanting to abandon the mission. Some find that they just can't handle being there or be away from their families for so long. And honestly, many of the people that feel we should abandon the mission seem to miss the point and listen too much to the negative aspects. I hear stories all the time of how thankful the people are too have us there and how they don't want us to leave until they are able to prove to themselves that they can handle the country themselves. Many iraqis take soldiers into their home and feed them or do anything they can to thank us for being there. I think the answer to whether or not you should go, however, can only be found within yourself.

Honestly, I could care less about the politics behind whether we're there or not. Doesn't matter to me, because I can't affect it. I'm still over here supporting OEF, was an OIF III vet., but for me...it's always been about soldiers doing right by other soldiers. The minute that we lost our first brother in arms, I feel like we owe it to them to finish what was started, whether it was the right decision to go in there or not. I'm also torn on this, though, because I don't feel like the current status quo of throwing more bodies into the fray is cutting it as a 'solution.'
We've all lost someone, and that's why I keep fighting, or doing my best in a role as combat support, so that we can give all those misguided hadjis what they deserve.

My husband is currently active duty Navy. We don't think that even him being a nuke mechanic in the Navy that he'll be heading over to the desert. The Navy needs him more over here. But worst case scenario, he signed up for his job so he must finish it, no matter what. And I will support him if need be.
But he is getting out soon, THANK GOD! lol

I served in OIF II and feel that we are doing the right thing over there.
The people I know who are currently over there feel that the military is winning.

We want to media and liberal idiots to shut the hell up, stop hamstringing us, and let us finish the job already.
We could have had this whole thing solved a few years ago if they would have just shut the hell up.
