Being religious is being a member of an organized religion. You have to live by their rules and regulations and believe what they believe even tho' you may not be convinced that what you are doing is the right thing. Being spiritual is believing that you don't have to go to church to be with God. You can do that sitting by the ocean, watching the sunset, erc. You have your own code of ethics, you live by the Golden Rule, you are a good person - not because someone tells you you have to be but because you want to be. Being spiritual is finding happiness and joy in the smallest thing - - as well as the big things. You would rather go for a long walk in the woods after a rainfall than sit in Sunday School and listen to the same old, tired voices spewing the same, old tired stuff. Being spiritual is liking yourself for what you know you are, not what someone else thinks you should be!!!

I don't have time to respond in the usual detailed way that I like to... but here is my best quick shot at answering here. I will try to come back and edit this so that it has references soon.

At least as far as my faith in Christ goes... when Jesus walked on the face of the earth, I feel that He had a particular view about this question. Spirituality meaning spiritual rebirth through the power of God's Holy Spirit, sent to man by Jesus Himself. Religion meaning an attempt to worship the one true God. However, Jesus had many things to say about many religious leaders, even calling them "whited sepulchers" at least once. I will try to go into more details about that when I edit this post, good Lord willing. I must run for now. (Modern views of the words "spiritual" and "religious" are sometimes very different than the views of Jesus. I will discuss this more when I edit the post too, good Lord willing.)

People who believe in the traditions and doctrines of an organized church are religious. People who believe in a God or a Spiritual Being are spiritual. Something like that.

Being religious means you adhere to a set of doctrines, whatever those may be. Alot of people follow religion without researching any of it, simply because they were raised that they must do so and not question anything. With religion, the leaders of the various denominations and sects tell you what to believe, what is right vs wrong and if you don't agree with any of it and/or if you believe in more than one set of doctrines at a time that don't agree, then you are considered a heretic.

Being spiritual is acknowledging a power higher than yourself without any of the dogma and doctrines that are required by religion. It also encompasses doing research as to why you believe what you do, and is open to more than one train of thought at a time.

Even atheists are spiritual beings. Religious people believe that Their interpretation of scripture is the only true way to read something.

Someone told me along time ago that "religion is for people that are afraid of hell, and sprirtuallity is for people that have already been there". I like that! However, I consider myself to be spiritual because I maintain a concious contact with my God(through prayer, meditation, and trying to live a good life). I'm not religious because I don't attend a church, I don't have to go to a building on a set day to commune with God I can and do stay in contact with my Higher Power all day. Good luck with your contact!

Spiritual means you believe in God, and all that. And being religious means you are part of a church worshipping and believing the same that they do.

You don't have to be religious to be spiritual.

It depends on whether you want to be a true Christian or just the follower of the croud. Your first endeavor is to get right with the Lord and serve him in the beauty of Holiness as the Bible says--earnestly pray--serve him with an honest heart--live right -use the old king James bible and find a true holiness church to attend and Jesus will do the rest. If you are looking for anything else then the world has a cornucopia of confusing ungodly cultist junk you can choose from and it will leave you empty in the end.

It makes me very happy to find here so many spiritual answers!
Spirituality is free of any dogma and makes us realize that we are all brothers. God is not somewhere outside to be found and adored but to be cultivated in our hearts and carefully listened to.
