It came on very sudden. Last night it was just kind of like a kink in my neck from sleeping wrong. Throughout the day it has gotten worse and worse. I can't turn my head either direction more than 2-3 inches. When I bend over and stand back up it throbs. And it's sore to the touch. It doesn't hurt when I look down but kills when I look up. I can even feel it when I swallow but it doesn't hurt up front at all. It's not in the same area where you feel your pulse. It's back farther. Any ideas? I really can't afford to go to the doc if I don't have to.

Could be an infection in your ear. You might need antibiotics.

If it is not better by tomorrow, you need to make a doctors appointment - to make sure it is not something more serious.

Sounds to me like a bad case of TMJ. Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome. First, alleviate stress. Second, don't chew gum. Third, get a mouth guard, to keep from grinding your teeth at night. I have had this for years. I was told, $75,000 for surgery. Yea, most insurance doesn't pay. Try watching TV and holding a pencil in your mouth without biting it. This will help you learn to relax those muscles that are impinging the trimengial nerve. If all else fails try hypnosis or acupuncture. Hope you get relief before it locks up on you.

sounds like a muscle spasm in the back of your neck. mine hurt so bad, i thought i broke my neck, i couldnt move it at all. i went to the ER and they did exrays but couldnt find anything wrong. they said it was a muscle spasm from sleeping wrong, or it may have been from the excercise i was doing the night before. It went away on its own.

And if Jesus doesn't come along to relieve your pain and discomfort and it gets worse, you should get it checked by a doctor or medical specialist.

Try putting a heat pack on it and see if that helps.

Pain of course is a sign that something's wrong...
