None whatsoever. Rolex makes mechanical watches, which have been obsolete for the last thirty years. Compared to even the least expensive waterproof electronic watch, the Rolex mechanical watch is inaccurate, delicate and unreliable. The price of the Rolex is simply silly.

It would be different if the Rolex had some inner mechanical beauty or workmanship or structures that render it a thing of beauty or of great interest from a mechanical standpoint. But it does not, they're pretty plain. Compare one of these to the workmanship and appearance of, say, a Hamilton railroad watch from the late 1800's, or a minute repeater.

In contrast to the easily mass-produced Co-axial designed by the late George Daniels and fitted in most of Omega’s new calibres, the Constant Escapement from Girard-Perregaux is a mind-melting fusion of fluked inspiration (reputedly inspired by the designer’s flexing of a train ticket), ultramodern materials and a manufacturing process so painstakingly precise and awkward as to strike the fear of God into the hearts of the irresolute. -
