My husband and i are going on a cruise out of florida. We live in Michigan. We can't decide to fly or not to fly. It's 18 hr. drive and 2 1/2 hr. flight. We have figured the pros and cons and still just can't decide.
Pros: It's faster
don't have to pay for parking at the dock
don't have to worry about car being stolen or damaged
Pros of driving: can see the sites.
can get as many souvoniers as we want.
Cons: of flying: delayed flight
lost luggage
Cons of driving: long trip
parking and paying
car can get stolen or damaged
Please help us make the decision.

the cost of flying is the same as it would be to drive and stay in a hotel.

well i went on a cruise in florida dn we drove all night from atlanta to florida and well we got on the ship all tired and smelly because we got into florida about the same time the ship started boarding well we didnt fell good for the whole day so one if you drive make sure you spend the night in the city your ship is leaving so you are well rested and are clean to get on the ship or if you are flying i would suggest getting into town the night befor.

I typically drive everywhere. It's typically cost effective for two people. However, on a drive that long, you also have to consider the cost of a h/motel on your way, unless you can both alternate driving for that long. (My husband and I have tried and failed.)

In your case, I would probably fly, even though i prefer driving. The only real cons are potentially having your flight delayed or luggage lost, while a long trip and paying to park are definite cons for driving - not to mention a lot of tanks of gas. It's also difficult to have to make long drive after a vacation. I suppose it really depends on how important a road trip is to you. Of course, you can always try to tour the south on a different trip :-)

To have the best of both the worlds.....I would make one way by a rental car and fly the other way. Isnt that a better idea..don't have to pay for parking at the dock....
don't have to worry about car being stolen or damaged...still able to see the sites.
and get as many souvoniers as you want.

I'd fly there. That way you have more time to to enjoy your cruise and not feel so drained from all the driving.
