Hahaha. Sorry. Your question is quite amusing. First of all, theory is just an assumption. Secondly, Genesis 1:1 states that from the "beginning, God CREATED the heavens and the earth." Just how long ago the starry heavens and the earth were created is not stated in the Bible but yes, it may have been created billions of years ago. The "theory" of the 6,000 years came probably because God took 6 days (according to God's Timetable) to create. ONE DAY to God equals 1,000 years to MEN. 6x1,000= 6,000 (2 Peter 3:8) Now, if you believe in Evolution, then this answer is no use to you.

Image a world without time, the Bible calls this Heaven, Imagine Einstein know what he was talking about with time and space when he says all matter becomes pure energy and ceases to exist as it approaches the speed of Light. Also time stops existing and can actually go backwards if a faster speed is reached.
Now imagine there is a spiritual world, angels live in such a world and so do demons, and they literally have to slow down to be even seen by men.Acts 12:7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Now I realize there are not too many churches teaching these things but you can see the possibilities if you use the imagination God did give you. So with this in mind imagine God only cares to have you know about the last 6,000 years rather than get into the Mind of God living in eternity then you have a basic understanding of the mind of God and this 6 days of heaven we are living in today; 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

I don't believe the world is 6000 years old and I believe evolution has a place and exists to a degree.
A theory is a POSTULATION with SOME proofs to support it.
A lot of the PROOFS on Evolution came from a Catholic Abbott who is the Father of Genetics.
These proofs, however with BOTANICAL, not HUMAN.
Humans are NOT plants. You CAN'T GRAFT a good limb to a bad limb in humans like you can a branch on an apple tree.
Try it!
It's far-fetched to extrapolate VIRAL and BOTANICAL evidence to HUMAN evidence.
Humans take FAR loger to evolove. Longer than the 150 years of the science.
Talk to me futher in 500,000 years and let's see what happens.

Since I don't believe in evolution, and I believe the earth could be billions of years old, and I am Christian, can I still answer the question?

Scientifically speaking, a theory is a well-supported idea. However, I think that evolution lacks crucial support, and that lack of support destroys any credibility evolution has in science. For instance, I haven't heard of a case in which life came from nonlife without intelligent direction of some sort, nor have I heard of a mutation that produced genetic information, rather than destroyed it. Both of these things must occur for evolution to be possible, the latter must happen thousands, if not millions, of times, and has not been recorded once, at least to my knowledge.

Ever hear of the "gap theory"? God created everything perfect - then satan was kicked out of heaven, there was war, 1/3 of the angels fell with him ---- then Genesis 1:2 came into being (every thing was void because of the destruction). Who knows how long that took? I don't have a problem with science, but I would like to know why science has a problem with me. In my opinion, a theory exists because we didn't (at the time).

A theory is just someones Idea.
The world is much older......BC means the years Before Christ and after He was born the years --- give or take a couple are now 2007.
Someone else can explain this better than I can at the moment. Don't take just anyones answer...keep searching.

A theory is a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena. Nevertheless it is also based on contemplation, speculation, a guess, or a conjecture.
