As far as I know, Ionizers emit negatively charged ions that attach to positively charged particles like dust and smoke, thus cleaning the air around it. Would this also cause harm to the body (ie. cancer, infertility)? What harmful effects would this have on electronic equipments (ie. tv, cellphone, etc)?

Commercial grade ionizers that are used in resorts have warnings that it can be harmful to your respiratory system if you are in the room while it's running. I doubt if you are talking about these types. Ionizers that are made to be used in homes are safe to use. Try to match the ionizer to the room size specified on the box to be on the safe side.
