I think we're allowed one free copy from each of the 3 major bureaus but only once a year. I'm sure they probably try and get you to sign up for one or all three services and perhaps it's worth it to sign up for one @ $39 in a one-time fee by yes, a credit card.

I was just reading a report about this recently. The answer
from Jen is the correct one. The report I read said there are
a lot of phonies now. If they ask you for money up front--
don't give them any information because they take your
money but they also get all your personal information that they
can use against you. Never give ANYONE your banking info,
credit card info, income or any financial data unless you are
absolutely sure who they are, and then still don't give it.
Also, never give anyone your social security number!!!

its the only place you can get one for free its the ones you are entitled to by law, unless you have been denied credit, insurance or a job.(you can get a free one in that case too) you do not have to buy anything, its your free credit reports you get by law
