neutered male, maltese mix, has slept in my bed since a puppy.

Why would he start peeing now? And in his own bed too. I thought they wouldn't do that.

Great comments coming in.

I can't think of why he would be mad. Nothing has changed in family dynamics. He has a brother who sleeps in the "family bed" too.

I don't know if he's hiking his leg or peeing when napping. I only discovered it after the fact. Yesterday, and again today.

I'll take him to the vet to check for bladder infection. Thanks again.

I would have him checked for a urinary tract infection-that would be the most common reason. Has anything else changed in his life lately? Has your routine changed? Has his food changed or did you get another dog? Is he getting enough attention? Please have him checked out by your vet. Good luck!

I have never had this problem but I know someone who has.
My first question would be what's on the bed that the dog feels the need to pee on it suddenly?
Sure a dog may do this if it's under alot of stress or have a bladder infection.
But in my friends case her live-in boyfriend had sex in her bed with another woman. The dog peed everywhere this woman sat in my friends house.Apparently this interloper was in the house frequently and the dog made it plain he did'nt like it and told on his daddy in the only way he knew how.
After several frustrating weeks of wondering what was up with the dog my friend came home from work early to put the dog out and caught the dog marking a chair and found her man in the bed and he were'nt alone.
After the rat was removed from the home the dog has'nt peed indoors again. She gave him the marked furniture when he moved and bought new stuff.
Rule out the other stuff first with a trip to the vet and some long walks and if the behaviour continues I'd look a lot deeper.

Is he actually standing up and hiking on the bed? Or is he peeing while asleep? Big difference as to why.

If he is leaking urine while asleep or lying around then this requires immediate vet attention as to cause.

If he is actually deliberately getting on the bed and hiking/sqatting to pee then something is still wrong. Either there has been a "visitor" in the bed and he is upset. Something in routine has changed drastically and he is showing he is upset at you. Marking his territory, neutered does not change that instinct.

But normally when any pet has a drastic change in behaviour we look for a medical cause first. He is trying to tell you something and get your attention.

I have seen dogs fully housetrained do their business in the house so person could see they had worms! Dogs are just smarter than we give credit. It is well worth a call to your vet on this. Smaller breeds can get sick real quick. May be a bladder/kidney problem.

Has there been anything around to stress him out, like another dog or something new? Is the weather bad outside? Sometimes a small dog won't want to go outside to eliminate because of bad weather, so they'll "go" in the house.

If it's not something behavioral, it's probably medical. Definitely take him to the vet. Bladder infections are relatively common, so it could be that, or possibly the beginnings of a more serious disease. Either way, have him checked out by the vet as soon as you can.

If the dog is fine and nothing has changed then there are products on the market which you can spray on things such as beds which deterr the animals from urinating wherever the spray is.. in the UK it is called 'Get Off' spray you can get the spray which deterrs them and also a spray which cleans the area after they'v done the 'business' and then leaves the sent to deterr them. Hope this can be of some help to you = )

When dogs do this it is usually due to a infection. Take him to the vet to check it out.

Is something different? Is mad at you for something? Or is he sick? Sometimes bladder infections cause doggies to do weird things like that.

Maybe he doesn't like you. More probably though he has a kidney infection or or nervous about something

when a dog pee's inside or where it wouldn't normally it's supposed to mean he's stessed out.
