I went to a girls' school so I share your grief about the opposite sex being shrouded in mystery.
I personally am not a fan of being approached randomly bc you know that this guy just thinks you're cute and knows nothing about you.
However, it can be done well and tastefully so it's not offensive. I think the best thing is to meet girls through friends or through shared interests as opposed to out on the street or wherever.
If you do approach a stranger make sure you're sincere, be yourself, don't be pushy and take no for an answer. And don't use lines, they're ALL crap.
As a girl, I can feel quite threatened when a guy comes on too strong and it's a real turn off, I almost feel scared. Just let girls know that you are interested, but you'd still like to talk to them even if they're not up for it. Give the girl the choice about what happens.
Good luck.

I don't mind when a guy approaches me but I usually feel more comfortable in the a crowd because with the way the world is today you never know who could be approaching you. (Not directed torwards you, just in general.) I wouldn't automatically go up to her and ask her out or ask her for her number because that would be kind of creepy to me. Maybe walk up to her while she's looking at something and ask her what the thinks about it or use the all-famous trick, "Isn't your name, so and so? You look familiar" always works LOL then if she's half way interested you'll be able to tell and continue a conversation with her about just different things depending on the situation you two are in. Good luck!

I actually love to hv a guy come up and talk to me. Who doesn't like attention. It is flattering. But please be decent and respectful. Humor is good if it makes me laugh or smile. The girl needs to feel safe with u first and foremost, in order for her to trust u a lil, to go further. Strike up a conversation. By asking for her number though, u r putting her on the spot. What if she likes u, but is not ready yet to part with her number? So be thoughtful with her on that. After chitchatting a lil bit, u can even ask her if she'd be interested to go out for a cup of coffee with u. Initiative always shows confidence, which is good. It is OK to be nervous too. I find that nervousness kinda cute infact. I like shy guys. Anyways, go right ahead and talk to her. Stay cool and easy-going.
:-)

In my opinion i think the boy should ask out the girl but that is because i am from Chicago and that is what we usually do here but then some relationships are ruined because the guy is to shy or they girl is to shy in my school we have boys and girls and the girls usually talk to the boys and then the girls usually talk among themselves same with the boys. I'm not shure if this helps it might be a little unclear but that is my opinion.

its best if you arent interrupting her, like say shes by herself being bored without her ipod or with one or two friends who are about to fall asleep...or so, i don't mind if a guy just walks up to me and starts talking but don't ask for my number first thing. Like say we have a really interesting convo starting but the guy or i have to suddenly go somewhere, that would be when you should ask for email or phone number or watever =]

Well, I like it when a guy talks to me, but I hope he doesn't ask me out or ask for my phone number the very first thing...

It completely matters where you are.....if you are in a bar, a lot of girls won't take as kindly to you hitting on them, than if you're in another place, where they are more sure of your intentions...
