Babies do this..they chew on paper, put anything into their mouth and this is normal. This sounds like it is just something you carried over with you from when you were a baby. This is just a habit, like any other habit. Habits are very hard to break. But, I dont think chewing on paper is anything I would be concerned about. People chew gum constantly like cows...people puff on cigarettes, like a smoke stack...chew on their pencils and so many other things that involves chewing or biting or putting something into their mouth. So give yourself a break and dont be so hard on yourself as this is not a big deal. Nobody knows whether you are chewing on paper or a piece of gum unless you tell them.

you should talk to your doctor. It could be a form of OCD, anxiety problem, or mineral deficiency. There is a condition called "pica" which you may want to look up. You should get a blood test to find out if you have an iron deficiency. I have heard of people chewing on paper, and this could be related to this, do you do when you are stressed out? Try chewing on gum instead.

Sounds like to me it's just a nervous habit. A lot of people chew on washrags. I don't see how this would be any different. Majority of nervous habits involve the mouth. Biting your nails, smoking, chewing, etc... If it's not hurting anything I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure whatever you're putting in your mouth is clean~

Usually the chewing or eating of non-food substances (called pica) is an indication of a serious nutritional deficiency. Do you have nutrition problems? Pregnant by chance? It's more common in pregnancy. Maybe consider have a CBC done by your doctor to check for any deficiencies.

I see nothing wrong with chewing on a paper towel or paper in general. I have bitten off the corner of the newspaper or even a piece of magazine . I chew on pencils, and the rims of my coffe cups and spit it out after awhile. It is cheaper than gum,and I chew that too.

I have a friend that is afraid of wet paper towels. This is because she used to eat them as a kid and her parents would yell at her. Now if we are at a resturant and someone throws a wet paper towel in her general direction she freaks. My guess is somthing as a child causes this to happen. Identify the source (aka the time it began by asking people who grew up with you) before you can get over it.
