How many people believe God "ought" to or "better" answer their prayers when they want and the way they want, or they will hold their breath until they turn blue in the gills and have it their way?

That is so true. I have done the same thing myself and it doesn't work but we still have our tantrums. Prayer is a protection for some people, another form of worry beads for others. It is what makes you feel comfortable and peaceful.
