I always found this strange, too, especially when you consider the Code of Hammurabi, a list of laws the Jews ripped off to make the Ten Commandments, predates the Commandments by at least 300 years, and the Commandment were, what -- 500 years or so before JC showed up?
However, the assumption you mention is typical of the self-righteous nature of true believers.

Any christian that says that is a moron of a christian. There was no creation of the religion itself, The religion is an explination of the creation of everything. So as soon as Adam bit the apple and sinned against God he became aware of what sin (or right and wrong) was. That doesn't go to say there wasn't moral before humans, it's just that Adam and Eve didn't know what wrong or right was before they disobeyed. There was no mankind before the christian religion- according to christians their religion explains how mankind came about.
