Is it practical to go from 98 to Vista? I have never had XP. And do you think Vista would be a solid system that would set new standards in the computer world?

It is definitely practical to switch from Windows 98 to Vista, because Microsoft spent 6 years developing Vista.

Vista will be a solid system that will set new standards in the: "computer world" because of its extremely desirable aesthetic appeal. Do customers really care for anything other than appearance?

Not only that, every program will eventually require Windows Vista. Windows Vista will overtake XP within 4 years.

One problem to consider: Hardware. You'll definitely need to upgrade your hardware for it to be capable of handling Windows Vista.

I strongly advise getting a new computer that has Windows Vista factory installed. It'll run very naturally.

Hope this helps!

I don't think you can jump from Win98 to Vista.

Let me give you some interesting information that appeared in our paper today, 1/29/07.

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Qn the eve of the consumer launch of its new Windows Vista- operating system Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2007) Microsoft Corp. is extending the period in which it will offer support for the previous version, Windows XP.

Consumers who own Windows XP machines already were entitled to get customer service on the software up until April 2009. That date reflects Microsoft’s policy of curtailing its support for an edition of Windows two years after a new version hits the market.

Microsoft recently said consumers who still have Windows XP running April April 2009 will be entitled to five more years of “extended support.” In the extended plan, consumers will still get security fixes, but instead of free service from the Microsoft help desk, they will have to pay for most assistance.

Microsoft said the move was meant to bring the support policies for consumers in line with what businesses already have.

Vista has been available for big businesses since Nov. 30, 2006, but hits the consumer PCs market as of Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007

Buffalo News, 1/29/07
Vista will add to Windows display deal with viewing photos, playing videos, recording and downloading music, and running the new “memory-gobbling” programs like Office Live. Needs:
800mHz speed, 1gHz better
512mb RAM minimum
20gb to run Vista
60-80gb hard drive

Yes, but consider to upgrade your PC first, because Vista requires computer specification much higher tahn 98.
I think Vista will popular in next 2 or 3 year.
Why dont you try XP first, follow the evolution.......

I would go to Windows XP. Microsoft sent me Vista and I have reported back to them, that the bugs are not all out of the operation system yet.

It is inpractical - Your 98 hardware is insufficiant for Vista.
XP is stable and lean when treated with nlite.1.)

BTW. They will force Vista on You with Your next hardware anyway :p
