no, i just think that ppl need something to believe in, and sometimes they get so needy they forget the real truth about religion and that it is man made, and that the real GOD that they seek is everywhere, not in a church or temple, or any where in particular

I think we are all religious people, only some of us refuse to admit it. On a basic level, religion is just an understanding of the existance of God. By this definition, Atheists and Agnostics are religious. So the question becomes, is everyone simple minded? No. While there are those who follow whatever religious belief because it is the easiest, the same can be said of agnostics and atheists. At the same time, Pastore was a devout Catholic, and an incredible scientist. C.S. Lewis, Newton, even Einstein who claimed that science was his religion, are intellectual giants, and religious men. I think it is incredibly limiting to say that anyone who follows a different belief is simple minded. I think we would be better served to acknowledge the individual right to choice. Accept that choice. And go on. Essentially, since I know that I cannot be converted to any belief system other than my own, why should I try to convert others to it?

As with anything else, you have leaders, followers, and rebels. It all depends on every individual's need for questions to be asked and answered, and if they are open to the answer. Above and beyond that, you have to decide if said answer makes sense and whether or not you agree with it. That's a big process for something as complex as religion. If you go through the complete process, you make a very educated choice. If you agree early on and with little explanation, then you tend to be simple minded. The rebels can be at any level, and are just not open to or completely reject the explanation as fallacy. Hence, the division within most religions. Blessings

Not all, but most. I think most "followers" don't take the time to think about things, and are more comfortable putting "faith" into something as opposed to putting effort into being responsible for one's own actions. Believeing that god or some other mysterious force will save one's self or make things better is naivete in its worst form.

The leaders (at the upper level for sure) are on the other hand very smart. They (through the rules they make) intimidate the "followers" with prospects of going to hell and stuff if they don't follow the rules, which more often than not include making monetary contributions to the organization in some way or another. It's the biggest business going, and the Catholics are the worst at propogating this - they even encourage the poor to keep having babies even though it will make poor people struggle more.

Fela Kuti has a good song that sum's up what is going on - Suffring & Smiling. "Suffer suffer for world, enjoy for heaven - now your fault be that" ... "Archbishop, he enjoy. Imam he enjoy, ..."

To study and devote oneself to God and the administration of His plan does not make one simple minded. Go to a good theological library and you will find on the shelves some of the most well reasoned arguments of a verity of topics. It seems it would be much more simple minded to just say "there is no God and when we die we cease to exist" This may sound good but how do we explain life. Every society throughout history has had some standard by which they live, most have some for of deity, singular or plural that they based their lives upon. Just look at the laws in the United States, how were they formed or developed? Or our documents of origin, "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.... Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing simple minded about that!

Maybe simple minded
but
Religion is only for unethical people. If you live your life with integrity you will not need religion.
Every single human on the planet knows right from wrong. it is just a matter what they choose to do. Do you really need a stranger that thinks he is special to tell you how to live.
Christians are the worst offenders of goodness, because Christians are allowed "SIN" so long as they ask for forgiveness.
for me there is no room for being unethical. If the only reason you are good is to impress a so called god so you can go to heaven, you are dead wrong. If Christan's love the lord Jesus so much, why do they not live by his way of life. but they prefer to live in a nice house, drive a nice car. eat good food. the only real christian that I have seen or heard about is Mother Theresa of Calcutta.
The rest of you are egocentric liars

Au contraire.

Religious people think a little TOO deeply and often overanalyze plain concepts about life when the "answer" is very simple.

Jesus said all that need be said when He said there are really only two commandments: Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength; and love one another even as we are loved by Him. Period.

If religious people had it together, they'd try making life a little easier on themselves by becoming simple-minded--paying attention instead of arguing with everyone about their diverse beliefs that no one else in the world agrees with.

I don't necessarily think they're simple minded on the whole, but religion restricts their view of the world. Since Christianity (particularly American Christianity) dismisses almost all science that can't be accredited to their gods, and any history that doesn't acknowledge the existence of their "savior," it also seems to encourage ignorance on a disturbing scale. It's also disturbing they are trying so hard to get their narrow doctrines taught in publicly-funded schools (the so-called "intelligent design," the newest euphemism for creationism), particularly since churches pay no taxes, therefore don't help pay for the public schools.

Honestly, I don't think the two are related. I think there are several religious folk who don't have the sense to find the floor every morning, but the same could be said about an agnostic. Conversely, some of the world's greatest thinkers were highly religious, while others espoused a strict code of self-philosophy. No offense to the asker intended, but this question is really comparing apples to oranges.

anyone who blindly defies reassessing their beliefs every now and again isnt simple, but closed minded. everyone needs to retest their beliefs, to test them, and subject them to scrutiny, and discard things that are not working or are unhealthy. this goes for anyone.

simple minds drool quietly, closed minds are like fanatics, yet if dogma is the drug, then delusion is the result. beliefs should adapt to fit the person, not the other way.

I find dogma to be the food of that makes people hostile towards others, and less empathic than they believe they are.

dogma does not turn the other cheek, and live and let live, but takes egotistical revenge, further lowering the dogma believer into spirals of shame.

truth hurts, and the thumbs down that atheists get show you prove my theory is partially correct. dogma has no friends, it even suspects its own people, and makes them spy on each other.
Why do people love dogmatic judgements over reality?

the religious judge far more than others, and assume the worst in people. If the god they worship is truly an omnipotent god, it wouldnt need mankind to be watching and judging would it, no, so by judging atheists as less than worthy you show you believe you know the desires of your god...

live and let live people, or you shame yourself and your belief through hypocritical actions, and shame the god watching you. (you think it cant see you in the dark?lol)

It is not usually religious, but primarily fundamentalist people of any religion that seem to be simple. It is easy to let someone else think for you, through religion or otherwise.
