The reason I ask is I just posted a question about Atheism. My question was misinterpreted and I was attacked very heavily, to the tune of 40 somethin answers. Are Atheists as intolerant as Christians and Muslims? Is Atheism the new extreme religion?

I really had to chuckle at the people who said christians were the most tolerent. I have two words for you: Fred Phelps. Got two more: Jerry Fallwell. Christians are intolerant of the views of others to the point that they seek to enact laws to force their views on others, for our own good, of course. Just read the paper if you want proof of this, there are christian groups seeking to ban gay marriage, ban abortion, and even tell us what we can watch on TV. There is nothing wrong with believing that these things are bad. When you tell other people that they also have to think they are bad, that's when the line is crossed. But, I digress.

Getting back to the original question. Atheism is not a belief system. It is not a force for change. It is nothing but an adjective. I am an atheist just like I am 5' 11" and caucasian. I have no conscience control over any of those things, it's just what I am. And, for the most part, atheists only have that in common. We all have different values and beliefs. From my experience, atheists are more open to different views, because they have no dogma or scripture that tells them what they should think is sinful or bad.

Now, I'm not sure what your original question was, but it must have struck a chord for a reason. Maybe it was warranted, maybe not. Try to keep in mind that we are one of the most hated groups in this country, and that the vitrol most of us get on a regular basis is largely undeserved. Compound that with the fact that the only reason we are hated the way we are is because a book that was written before any of us were alive says we should be. That can make some of us a little sensitive, and understandibly so. Many christians, living in this extremely christian-friendly country can't really know what it's like, and just assume that we're angry or intolerant, when really we're just trying to stick up for our rights and not be trampled underfoot. I would wager that there are many more live and let live atheists then there are actively anti-religious ones, but I think the latter's numbers are increased proportionately to the amount of control christians try to exert over the personal lives of non-christians.

the folk you listed did no longer kill in the call of atheism, in comparison to non secular terrorists. Communism is very almost thoroughly incompatable with faith. there's no such subject as elementary Atheism, via fact there's no scripture for us to take actually. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, I do trust you. this isn't any longer unavoidably faith that determines whether a man or woman is close-minded or no longer. there are a number of illiberal atheists, only as there are tolerant, open-minded theists.

I would not say it is the new "extreme religion", no. It is a movement that has taken on a tremendous force lately, though. I for one applaud it. We need to make sure religious views don't push their way into our laws, and I'm glad to see people are working for that.

I do believe one of those groups is more intolerant than the other, but I don't want to be casting stones and pointing fingers because it is not constructive and it is bordering on indecency so I'll pass.

I think Christians are the most tolerant. Because it doesn't matter to me what they think. My job is to just give them the message. If they accept it or not is up to them. They can believe whatever they want to. I am defensive and will debate my beliefs, but Muslims and Atheists can do what they want. I do not curse them, I just tell them what the bible says will happen to them.
