The world's problems are more a result of political beliefs than religious ones. You could say that SOME religious beliefs as they are put into practice have been less than helpful in reducing the world's problems, while you can also say that OTHER religious beliefs as they are put into practice have been instrumental in overcoming many of the world's problems.
Think about how some religious beliefs foster the idea to "Love Thy Neighbor" and "Treating your neighbor as if they were family." Think about the impact of these ideals on transforming societies into one's that welcome strangers rather than be wary of them. Think about our US Declaration of Independence and the notion that "All men are created equal endowned by their Creator with cetain unalienable rights such as Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness"
Our country is far better off with these ideals...ideals that were originally based on religious beliefs...than without them.
Like I said, the key is how religious beliefs are put into practice, and what we are witnessing around many parts of the globe are the problems caused by religious fanatics for whom individual freedoms do not exist.

tried to be a Godless society has suffered extreme hardship, oppression of the poor, mistreatment of the people, and poverty.
From what I learned in history greeks were pretty happy and well off. and they had orgies all the time.
Most wars that have been started have been started based on some morons religious beliefs.
EX: the crusades, holocaust, the war in the middle east, the salem witch trials...etc

I would say yes and here is why: Religion gives people a reason to segregate. What people beleive can make another person angry. Religion gets people killed, it makes people closed to other's ideas, it makes people spend all this time fearing it instead of living life, It causes setbacks in science, and advancing the medical community. It can influence one's beleif in themselves.
Religion is a petty thing. People do no realize that it is going to kill this world.

some beliefs can income human beings in that they could foster wish and love, yet those aren't any further unique to religions. on the undesirable area, religions can foster, even with if by accident, lack of expertise, imposing a given morality, repressive/oppressive attitudes in direction of others, and in certain circumstances violence adverse to others.

its not causing most of it, i think its money causing most of the worlds problems, but of course that is not going to change, religion is only part of the problem and its not all the people in those religions who are making it bad, only a few idiots ruin it by setting a bad rep for those people in the religion
