i know this is a weird question, but i always wondered about it. i looked it up on the internet, but that didn't help me much. by category, i mean the two branches of christianity: catholic and protestant. i know that baptist falls under protestant... and so forth, but i always wondered about presbyterian. so, does presbyterian fall under the catholic or protestant category?

Protestant; anything that isn't Catholic is Protestant. Even Lutherans are, because even though they say in their creed, "We believe in one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church," They have not yet integrated themselves fully into the Church.
