If you are ready to pay for antivirus I suggest 'Trendmicro Pccillin 2007 Internet security'. It is more than just an antivirus. It has the following features

1. Internet security ( website filtering, Anti phishing, Anti spam, popup blocker etc)

2. THe antivirus is a lightweight module which takes less system resources. It does not slow down your computer as other antivirus software does.

3. Wireless network security system

4. A very high speed patching system. A patch or pattern will be realeased as soon as a new virus/malware breaks out.

If you want a free antivirus I suggest Avast Home edition which is good.

Symantec or Trend Micro antivirus. All you need it basic antivirus - not System Works, or Internet Security, or any other bells and whistles.

Stay away from McAfee - the interface stinks!

To correct the previous poster, and so you do not do the wrong thing... Ad-Aware is a good program but IT IS NOT an antivirus program. It is an adware/spyware remover. What you want is antivirus which also detects spyware.

Also STAY AWAY FROM FREE ANTIVIRUS programs! Do not listen to the people here that recommend them. Since the software is free these companies do not have the funding to stay on top of all the latest viruses. I just had to help another guy on here that had a virus infection because he was using AGV antivirus. Go cheap on other types of software but NOT antivirus.

As many have already mentioned, it fairly is achieveable yet unlikely. What has me in contact is that your AV utility discovered it and supposedly bumped off it (from a CD?). If it fairly is a manufacturing unit CD then what's on disk can't be bumped off in need of rendering it unreadable, which skill you're transforming into a faux scientific care to a faux alarm or a faux scientific care to a real alarm. If it fairly is a CD-R or CD-RW then you definately've a plenty extra desirable reason to have confidence there fairly is a trojan present day, using fact it fairly is plenty extra undemanding to produce contaminated or in any different case tampered CD-Rs and CD-RWs than manufacturing unit disks. i might get a 2nd opinion on the disk. test it on a various workstation, with a various antivirus suite if achieveable. i might additionally recommend working an exceedingly thorough test on your equipment on an identical time as you're at it. you're transforming into something providing you with fake alarms and fake fixes. i've got seen a lot of ransom-ware (bogus AV utility that hijacks your equipment) that does precisely that so which you will fall of their seize and purchase it.
