I don't trust doctors anymore, but you should be looking at the hospital. Its a proven fact that hospitals are just a breeding ground for terrible illnesses. Also, you very well might get the wrong medicine, they just don't care. Its like the human part of medical is no longer existant. Its just overworked doctors and nurses doing incorrect things. Since you can't get the truth from the hospital, I think its time to go to an attorney and maybe he can get at the truth much better than you can.

I live 2 blocks away from The Mayo Clinic and all of the downtown offices, while I do trust my doctors, I do not make a sweeping judgment that all of them are the best. I think everyone when faced with medical decisions need to question and research on your own as well as finding a doctor that you feel has your best interests at heart. There is a hospital in the town where my mom lives that i wouldn;t take a seriously injured homeless man to, much less myself or my family. My mom feels the same way and drives 2 hours out of her way to attend a hospital that she trusts, again...Mayo.
I am sorry for what happened to your family.

I am from a small town, with no major towns within 1 hour of me. Each other small town has a small hospital... but mine seemed to be the worst. You had to Pre-call to arrive in the ER, or no one was there. So I began going to another small town hospital that was just a tad bigger than my hometown. And I always trusted those doctors. Now, I actually work there and trust 50% of them. The best way to figure out if you can trust your town's doctors is to ask the advice of the nurses/medical staff. They see the patient care they provide, and can honestly tell you if they would go see them as patients.
Sorry to hear about your uncle!

I'm sorry to read about your uncle and I can empathise with your feelings.
I have worked in a medical school for 20 years, mostly with first and second year MD students. They are definitely very intelligent and motivated, hard working people, a small group, carefully chosen by the school from a large field of applicants. (At one time I aspired to to medical school myself, but that was not to be).
Of course they are only human and they do make mistakes and, like anyone, they may even become disillusioned, addicted or worse. From what I have seen of the medical system though, it is hard to imagine a better group of people, better trained to look after my health.
So my answer is that I trust my doctor and answer their questions accurately so that they can give me the best treatment possible, and yes I take my wife and son to them and trust them to look after my parents, too. I also try to understand what they tell me, ask questions and think for myself as much as possible, and work to develop my own common sense and be able to look after myself. After all, no matter how good the doctor, an ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure.

For something as serious as cancer or any serious or mysterious illness, I would never go to a local, small-town doctor or hospital ... I would go to the nearest big city to find a specialist and ALWAYS get a second opinion.
I do not mean to demean small-town doctors, but they are not always trained or equipped to deal with trickier conditions, and you can also lose a lot of precious time while they "investigate"; whereas a specialist can often hone in on a condition right away.
I always ask lots of questions and try to take an active part in my treatment ... I usually know my body and my pain better than somebody else.

I'd say the doctors in my town are good.
The stuff they give me I always make sure I know what it's for and I normally even look it up on the internet if I still want to know more.So if you're not sure, check about the drugs online.Normally you can just type in the name on Google or something and tons of info will pop up.
When it comes to knowing if they're trustworthy or not, word of mouth is best. But I live in a small town so that's much easier.

yes i trust my doctors in my own town...because the doctors here in my town does send us for 2nd opinions and to specialist. Besides with the medication they give us....the pharmacist is right on top of that....because we always ask constantly questions about the medicines.
if you don't like the results with you town doctors then why do you go to them....
well my mother was the same way...but she was really bad with the cancer...they didn't expect her to live for 2 days....it was about 1 month before she died of cancer Thur out all of her organs...we had several different opinions of doctors besides our town doctor..he recommended us to a very good doctor.
