so i was having a great conversation with this guy and i brought up how i wanted to see dream girls and stomp the yard. then he told me that it wasn't right and he didn't believe in going to the movies b/c god said it's not of the world. so is going to the movies of the world or not? i can understand porn and stuff like that but come on! dream girls?

That is really a case of personal convictions or feelings. I know of others who will not go to movies because they think that it is wrong, but for myself, God has not convicted me of that and therefore, I don't have a problem with going to the movies. My only problem with the movies is the price of a ticket.

I do not know any thing of Dream Girls, but I think that most movies are bad. But I do not believe that all movies are bad (to see in a movie theater).
I think that as you grow in God, you will stop seeing more and more movies. And it may come to pass that the Lord will convict you note to go to any more movies, or you are getting so close to God that you are to busy doing things that He has shown you to go to a movie.

Pray about it. What is the Lord telling you? And we are told not to be a stumbling block for others.....Is that putting a stumbling block in someone else's path?
