I'm doing a cabaret-style show in my hometown, and I have been paired with the housemaster of the local middle school. I, myself, am an English teacher in another district, but I'd like to find something funny, appropriate, and not too difficult to sing with the gentleman. I don't believe he has much experience, although I do. The whole thing is just meant to be a night of good-humored fun and entertainment to raise money for the establishment of a performing arts center in my hometown. But there is a little aspect of competition involved. The "best" act...(and I suppose that could mean the funniest, the most sincere, the most unique, etc.) wins some kind of award. I'd like us to do well, so if anyone has some original, comedic ideas, I'd love to hear them. I have a musical theater background but can't think of too much other than some good ol' standards. (By the way, we can change lyrics, if necessary)! Put on your thinking caps! The best suggestion wins the points!

Some good comical duets from musicals/film are:
Anything you can do - Annie Get Your Gun
If I didn't Have You - Quest For Camelot(Magic Swrord) (Warner Bros.
You're The One That I Want - Grease

Some other ones to think about are:
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John/Kiki Dee
Me and My Shadow - Frank Sinatra/Sammy Davis Jnr
Things - Nancy Sinatra/Dean Martin

I know some of the songs above maybe be 2 males, but its easy just to change some small words here and there to accomodate.
Also, if theres a song that you like but its not been done as a duet, just work it round to your advantage and split the song into a duet, even if you don't have time to learn harmonies or anything like that, just give one line to the male one line to the frmale and then both together.

Good Luck

Well, a fairly simple duet between a man and a woman is "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off". Link below shows the lyrics. Break a leg!

If you are trying to play up the "educator" part, how about something from My Fair Lady or the King and I?

I like the idea of the backward Sonny and Cher -- it sounds easy and funny.

What about "I Got You Babe" (Sonny & Cher). I did this with my husband. But we reversed the roles. (I was Sonny, he was Cher). I wore a band around my hair & a moustache and a hippy-type vest, and he wore a pink gown (made toga style from a pink bedsheet and a pink sparkly wig and appropriate makeup).

It was hilarious and the biggest hit of the production.

Also the lyrics are quite simple and easy to memorize.
