Hey, recently my eyes have been becoming really sensitive to the light, to the point where I have to look at the ground while shielding the top of my eyes. I can't stand walking outside anymore because it hurts my eyes...I can't get sunglasses because I have glasses, and I don't have enough money for contacts and won't for quite a while. What are some ways to protect my eyes so they don't hurt when I'm outside?

The only thing that I've done thats different from my normal Schedule is I started taking some Ulcer medication. Can this be the cause?

Well, if this is new, you should see a doctor or optometrist just to make sure that you are not developing a health problem of some sort. My eyes are very sensitive to the light as well. I had to use clip on shades (which are often quite tacky.... mine were VERY tacky!) until I could dish out the extra cash to get prescription sunglasses. Watch for sales. A lot of times you can get 2 for the price of one and this usually includes sunglasses. If you have insurance coverage for glasses, they will often say that you got 1 pair of glasses so that your insurance will cover it.
If you really don't like the idea of clip on shades, then I agree with that you should get a hat or something. You really don't want to do any damage to your eyes.
Be careful!

Honestly, at this time of year it's not unusual to have some light sensitivity. If you spend a lot of time indoors, if the days are dreary, if there's snow on the ground outside and it's sunny out, all those things may cause you to have a problem. You might want to schedule an eye doc appointment just to make sure your glasses are still ok for you and that there's no problem causing the sensitivity. But you should try getting out more, a little at a time, to see if you can't once again acclimate your eyes to the light. And keep the rooms in your house brighter than usual for a few hours during the day. Good luck.

I have the same problem you do, except my eyes are red all the time and they hurt too! My doc says it's just dry eye and I'm Restasis now, but it can take up to 6 months to work! Sometimes I can't even drive because of the light, and that's with my sunglasses on. If I were you, I'd get some clip on sunglasses to put over your glasses. That will help some. Other than that, see an ophthalmologist about your eyes. Good lick!

You can wear a hat or a cap. I understand that you can find some clip-ons to substitute a pair of sunglasses for your prescribed glasses. Be mindful what colors you wear because some are very bright so stay away from the bright ones. I wonder if your light sensitivity on your eyes is due to a side effect from a medication your are presently taking or took not too long ago.

get some clip ons for your glasses. Start to save up for perscription sunglasses. Where a hat with a visor. Try to spend less time inside in front of a computer. Do eye exercises, i.e. look left, right, up, down and repeat this.

Try using some eye drops. I'm a surfer who spends a lot of time on the computer for work. Recently I got back in the water after 2 weeks of inactivity and boy did my eyes hurt.

I have the same exact problem! It's just begun recently, so I'm wondering if the reason my eyes are becoming so sensitive to light is because of the cold weather. It hasn't been really cold here up until about two weeks ago, so maybe the cold air dries out my eyes, making them more sensitive...
Maybe you have the same problem? If your eyes are so sensitive that they begin to tear up, then it means your eyes need more moisture, so you could try eye drops also.

Otherwise, a good solution would be to simply wear a hat that shields your eyes.

I have the same problem. Cant go anywhere with out my sunglasses. I even have to wear them in winter, cuz its still too bright outside. My eyes hurt and start watering in any bright light.

Even if it looks silly - get the clip on sunnies for your glasses - your eyes will never get any better by trying to bear with it.
Sunnies are the only thing that will help you stand outside without squinting.

Are you constantly in dark areas? If so, maybe turn on a few more lights, or make it a point to get outside more often. If you are still experiencing an issue, see an optometrist. I used to work as a programmer and wouldn't see daylight for weeks on end, and I would have a little trouble adjusting to the sunlight, but my eyes would always adjust within 10-15 minutes.

I have the same problem. It's common in Myopic people. I have prescription sunglasses.

Besides prescription sunglasses, they also sell wraparound sunglasses that go over your glasses and clip-on sunglasses.

The only way to protect them is with sunglasses.

there's many reasons, most aren't good, why your eyes are getting sensitive to the light.

unfortunately you better make an appointment with an eye doctor... probably a retinal specialist.

have you had your blood pressure checked? if it's high do you take medications for it?

does glaucoma run in your family? other eye disorders?

OR are you on medications that cause photosensitivity to light?

there's many reasons.. one solution.. check with a doctor.

no kidding.
