US Navy SEAL

At least 42 push-ups in 2 minutes
At least 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
At least 6 pull-ups (no time limit)
Run 1.5 miles in boots and long pants in under 11:30

British Infantry

1.5 mile run in under 11min 45 seconds
30 push ups in 2 min
45 sit ups in 2 min
As many pull ups as possible no time limit
a score of less than 10.2 on a bleep test
You have to be able swim to a good standard.

Now i know the seals is harder and im not disputing that but its not much harder than the Infantry fitness level required for the British Infantry. Does that suprise anyone because it does me. I thought it would be devastating just to get to special forces training as i know ours are ( the SAS/SBS ). Paras have to run the mile and a half in under 9min 30 seconds and Royal Marines in under 9 minutes in Britain.

Any commonwealth nation citizen can join the british army.
Also both of these are minimums.

Our SAS has to run 8miles carrying 80lbs and a rifle in under an hour amonst other things.

Many may disagree but i think some SEALs would find British army training very difficult. Americans who have attempted have rarely completed it. I belive SEALs would pass but they wouldnt say it was easy. Our infantry training is as hard as some elite and even special forces. SEALs would struggle with Para or Royal Marine training. RMs have a pass rate of 0.1%. Only the SAS and SBS have lower with only 7-10 passing every year.

Bill. The requirments are minimum for both. You cannot become an infantry soldier in the British army if you cannot pass these. They usuall expect the mile and a half in 10min 30 sec which is also a highly expected time in the SEALs (thanks to who pointed that out, lol ).

Remember i said the SEALs is alot harder no doubt but they wouldnt coast British infantry training

Doesn't really surprise me that the Brits have high stands. However that is the minimal for SeALS, you can be sure that if that is the max you can do you wold never make it through buds.

I respect brits and brit soldiers -- but clearly you do not know much about SEALs (small s, by the way).

Few are selected, and few make it through training. The minimum requirements you are looking at mean what is least needed to even dream of becoming a seal.

You must go thru weeks of cold water training and physical endurance to pass the training to become a SEAL. Regular US soldiers and Brits soldiers don't come even close.

You don't have to be bullet proof to get into the British Army (it is not technically a requirement) but it helps. If You can pass the course You are every bit as good (indeed better) as the very best that anyone else can put into the field.

They are about the same and just about anyone in the US Infantry can do all of those, except the swim, without any difficulty

As far as the differences, here is a prior best answer:

The seals and sbs are basically the same, they have the same mission.

the sas would be compared to delta force, which delta was based on.

You should be more concerned with the training you get as I think almost any male in his 20's who is in shape can pass those requirements

British army: you have to be British to join. The seals will take anyone who can stand up to the tests.

Forget the minimum requirements...

I would say that MOST people could make it though British Army boot camp.

VERY few people even get selected to SEAL training and EVEN FEWER make it through the training.
