The best thing to do is not react.
Someone going by in a car, just
wants your reaction. Don't give
them the satisfaction.

Ignore the person. Road rage is dangerous. With so many
people driving, a person never knows what kind of person you
are actually dealing with. Just keep driving, keeping your eyes
straight ahead. If a driver starts "arguing" with another driver,
keep in mind some people keep guns or weapons next to them
on the seat. I would not give that person a second glance. There
are some drivers who would think nothing of following you to
where you are going, attempting to run you off the road or
causing an accident. It is not worth it. Let the idiot in front of
you and keep going.

I think it's best not to let a knee-jerk reaction to dictate your behavior. Though one might want to respond to a belligerent driver by gesturing in kind, moving out of his/her way is the best course of action. Road rage can end tragically.
Believe it or not, some people even advocate making a "sorry" sign to deescalate a road-rage situation. I don't know if I'd take it that far, but here's the link:

Anytime you let someone else influence your feelings or actions a few things are happening, you are admitting that they have a control over how you feel. Before that happened THEY owned the thought, but after you respond,YOU now own it (their anger, frustation, ignorance).Let it go, consider the source,be the bigger person.Easier said than done if you haven't practiced it in life, but as with all things...practice makes perfect

I don't know, but my 50-year-old dad flips people off sometimes when we're driving on the interstate and huge pickups come flying up on everybody's a.ss and it's flockin' hilarious.
P.S. If people are flipping you off that often while you're driving, it might be instructive to reevaluate your driving habits.

Maneuver your car away from them as soon as possible so you're less likely to get into a road-rage accident.

I just laugh at them and think to myself that I'm glad they know their true IQ, and they have the Gaul to advertise it.
