I would maybe (if you can) throw her a little party. Also, instead of a present, maybe you can make a dedication in her name- like naming a tree in her mother's name. You can also have a star dedicated to her mother (it is only around $50) so she can always look up at night and see her. It depends though. You know your friend. Main point is to try to make her happy, at least for that one day

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm not sure that your friend will be up for a party, but why not spend the day just the two of you. I'm not sure what your ages are, but what about going to get your nails done together, then go out to dinner and follow it up with a movie. Just a day to get her mind off of things and have a good time.

Ask HER !!!!! talk to her and see if she is up to a party or a small intimate get together..... loosing a mother is hard to say the least.... it takes time to get back into the swing of life.... if she says NO to a party then respect her wishes, if she says yes to a small gathering make it small, no more than 6 ppl.... maybe just a relaxing evening sitting around playing a few fun games... and calling in for Chines or Pizza........ God bless

A lot of people are bringing solid ideas, but here's what I'm gonna say, try to do something nice in a social atmosphere reason being you don't wanna do something that would bring memories of her mom and ruin her bday. So whatever you do try to make sure you're taking her mind off any serious things and the tragedy in her life

this might sound silly at first but i promise you it is so much fun..go on a scavenger hunt..make a list of about 20 or 20 things and go around your town to find them like a two toned car or a house with christmas lights on or a bouncer at a bar..silly things like that and make sure to have a time limit..i promise you it will be fun and get her mind off of everything!!
