Whats up with military movies and televison shows, not putting name tapes i.e last name and branch that means Marines, Navy, army..Maybe its to save money, I mean it would cost $5.00 to get both. But it makes it complete, a uniform is not complete without name tapes, its consider out of uniform, only recruits in the Marines dont have name tapes. We get our name tapes towards near graduation, because you have to earn the title Marine to be place on your uniform.

That annoys me to no end also. It isnt the military's responsibility to correct the show on the correct way to wear it. It is the TV show's responsibility to make it as realistic as possible. Personally, I stop watching the show when I see blatant mistakes, like the sanitized uniforms. No unit patch, no combat patch, no name tape, no US Army tape. Is there even rank on there? Flag? Of course, my husband did show me something last night that while in country, only rank and US Army tape should be on the uniform. But I saw that the Unit's uniforms are sanitized no matter where they are. If they arent going to go the extra mile to make it as realistic as possible, then they dont want me to watch.

It is NOT that on TV they aren't permitted to make the uniforms exactly as they are in regards to regulations. I've heard that for years.

It is because of who makes the TV costumes.

Think about it. How many ex-Marines go into theater costume design after they retire?

How many theater guys, the kind who think fashon and costumes are just FABULIOUS, wind up in the Marine Corps?

The vast number of people who make TV and movies know less than nothing about the military. They do the best the can, but they normally don't have the time, budget, or interest in getting the uniforms right... and besides 90% of the audience isn't going to know the difference anyway.

It is mostly because the don't know how to correctly do it and don't really care because they know the majority of their audience will not notice because so few of us are actually in the military. I can put up with something like a medal out of order but it when it comes to major issues I just change the channel.

Because on TV they aren't permitted to make the uniforms exactly as they are in regards to regulations.

When I was in the Navy we use to sit and drink beers sometimes and watch JAG and point out all of the mistakes.

Sometimes it's something as minor as the order of the ribbons.
