Earlier in my life as a female, I thought that male dogs were more devoted. As I got into the animal rescue business, I ended up with female dogs because more are thrown away. They are just as devoted. I now believe it depends on the dog. I have a blue heeler that is extremely smart. She senses my moods and is always there. I can turn my back and trust her to be there. She is so smart and trainable yet able to think for herself. She is just as remarkable as the male mutt I had years ago. His mother was a poodle and his father was part chow and part black dog- just as smart and clever as they come.
So my first preference is I want a very smart dog. Second, I pick a female. Frankly it boils down to how and where they pea. A female will pea a lot in one spot. She may put a yellow spot in your grass but she will put it in one spot on the newspaper if you have to leave her inside. A male will do it all over your vegetables and furniture. And marking is a male thing. . .

I also have a female Blue Heeler crossed with a Kelpie. What a great dog! Thinks she's human. But have also had a male Rott/Chow cross that was a remarkable dog. If I had to choose, I would say female but really it depends on the breed(s) and also the environment that the dog was raised in. Both my dogs have been a joy in my life and both have been easily trained. Although the male would occasionally get into trouble if he followed the lead of his partner, a Aussie/Border Collie female puppy!!!

I have both. The male is more playful and mischievous. The female is more laid back and cuddly.... Most male dogs like to mark their territory and that can be a problem. I wouldn't take anything for either of my dogs but I would have to say the female is the better behaved of the two.

Female because well I'm a female but mainly because they don't seem to be as aggressive and they don't have as many behavioural problems even if they aren't desexed but I would still reccomend getting them desexed.

I think females are calmer and less aggressive (when they aren't protecting pups) I think they are easier to teach. Males seem to be more stubborn especially when its getting into things that they shouldn't

A female...because on walks, she doesn't stop ever minute to pee on every bush/tree we walk by. She's also very cuddly, and laid back.
