I do know some very godly women that choose to follow this scripture literally.
There is more at stake here than just "let all things be done in order." Many believe the Bible was not culturally written, i.e., what Paul wrote was for all Christian women throughout all ages. Others scoff at that idea. If portions of the Bible were culturally written, was the gospel written for the people of its day and not ours? - I hope you can see where I am going with this. Granted, we don't "greet one another with a holy kiss" anymore either, but Paul bases this particular teaching on something that happened at the beginning of the world - thus Paul is referring to a creation ordinance set forth by God that I don't thnk we should lightly dismiss.
You be the judge - let your own conscience decide - but I would give it much prayer before dismissing it. If this is God's Word for women today, many a women may need to humble themselves in order to abide by it.
This teaching of Paul's goes hand in hand with his theology about women pastors which is another can of worms the church has opened.

Hmmmm. This doesn't sound like a blanket statement for women to remain totally silent in public, and that is what you would need to enforce a ban on Christian female speech.
There have been Christian (and Jewess) prophetesses throughout history. Those whom God taps to speak, should speak, regardless of their gender.
It is the basic misunderstanding (or misapplication) of this very passage that has caused many people to assume that Christianity is anti-woman. It isn't!

if i recall correctly this is a matter of during the weekly service, and this is meant to do 2 things, preserve the newer or unlearned men's dignity, as well as keeping her from interrupting the service for others. but if you look at the OT you can see that some women were even prophets! so i think the answer to your Q is yes.

Actually, I would like ALL Christians, men and women to posess and demonstrate at least a minimal knowledge of Christian doctrine before answering any questions. This test would be a good qualifier:

God did not have much to do with writing Timothy. This is one of the books CHOSEN by earlier Christians to be part of the Bible. It was one of the many letters that Paul wrote as a guideline to the leaders of the beginning generations. This particular leader was Timothy.
So that being said I believe that it was advice of Paul's, rather than God's Law!

Um, I think you're misreading that scripture and that you are a man. Its wrong for a woman to "teach" or preach in front of men, but what is wrong with discussion? The above scripture does not say we can't talk about friends.

Women can answer here. That passage has more to do with women and their husbands. But the Bible does have many important women, one was even a judge.

Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
And if we are all one in Christ Jesus, then I don't think He'd have a problem with us answering questions here.
Welcome to 2007, my friend.

THIS SCRIPTURE WAS FOR THEN!!! You need to study the time period for which this scripture was written!!! WOMEN WERE NOT ALLOWED TO GO TO SCHOOL OR EVEN TO CHURCH, HOW DARE MEN NOT ALLOW WOMEN TO EVEN GO TO CHURCH! PAUL WAS THE FIRST MAN THAT INSISTED THAT WOMEN BE IN CHURCH. THE REASON THEY CANNOT TEACH IS BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER SCHOOLED, YOU CANNOT TEACH OF WHAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. WOMEN TODAY HAVE DEGREES IN THEOLOGY AND MEN ARE STILL TRYING TO TAKE THIS SCRIPTURE AND SAY THAT WE ARE STILL STUPID AND SHOULD BE SILENT IN CHURCH, WHATEVER.
