Unless your dog is a purebred and you wish to keep that purebred lineage with others of the same species, you should definitely get your dog neutered. The only cons would be if your dog is a showdog, or as I said before, you wish to breed purebreds.

As for the pros... to state it simply, if you neuter him, your dog will be less likely to develop behavior problems. For example, your dog will be less aggressive towards you and others. Your dog will be less likely to question that you are the master of your relationship. Other behavior issues that would be decreased are guarding (of food, toys etc) and territory (peeing on furniture, walls, perhaps decor items). Fewer behavior problems is probably the biggest factor.

By neutering your dog, you are also doing society a favor by insuring that the canine population doesnt increase because of your dog mounting others. It would also be a nuisance to have your dog keep leaving in order to find a "mate".

Hope I helped, and please listen to your vet. The vet is right about neutering being the best thing for your dog because it will provide less strain on the relationship between you and your pooch.

If you've ever been in the pet section hereY/A. ....ABSOLUTELY nuter your dog. So many problems arise from un-ntr/spay pets its incredible not to mention pet overpopulation! With age males often get tumors on the testies. He will stray if he smells season female,no matter how well trained you think he is. My old neighbor(a redneck) shot a dog b/c 3 males were after a in heat female in our area and the fighting bothered him.Luckily he didn't kill it but it ran off and I felt so bad for him.

it is better for them. they are less aggressive if done young, they are less likely to roam and hump.

it is the best interests of all but show dogs and breeders to get desexed. the amount of unwanted litters each year is awful - with many millions of puppies being put down. we should all do our bit to help - even if you have no intention of breeding him. desexing him now means there is no chance of him being the father of an unwanted litter somewhere down the track.

Benefits include:
Reduced risk of getting cancer or other diseases of the reproductive organs, such as testicular cancer, prostate cancer/disorders in males, and cystic ovaries, ovarian tumors,
acute uterine infections and breast cancer in females, and
also other diseases like mammary cancer, perianal tumors
and perianal hamias.
Females can suffer from physical and nutritional exhaustion if continually breeding.
Pets generally live longer and healthier lives
Pets are less prone to wander, fight, and are less likely to get lost or injured.
Reduces territorial behaviour such as spraying indoors.
Less likely to suffer from anti-social behaviors. They become more affectionate and become better companions.
Eliminates "heat" cycles in female cats and their efforts to get outside in search for a mate.
Eliminates male dogs' urge to "mount" people's legs.

Unless you are going to show him in AKC conformation shows it is the best thing for the dog. It makes them less likely to roam, mark their territory, hump, and it makes them an all around better pet.

Listen to your vet and get him neutered. It will be better for him AND for you. In general and in the long run, he will be better behaved and he will be happier, which will also make your life easier. It's a win-win.

If you have no intentions of breeding him by all means do it.
It prevents some chances of canvers and it also keeps a male from being a "mounter" and a roamer.

HAVING A MALE NEUTERED TENDS TO MAKE THEM STAY CLOSER TO HOME--AND THEY WON'T MARK THEIR TERRITORY AS MUCH EITHER--MY MALE DOBIE GOES BRAIN DEAD WHEN A FEMALE IS IN HEAT WITHIN A MILE OF MY HOUSE-LOL--WISH I'D HAD HIM NEUTERED!!

Can you tell me one reason why you WOULDN'T? Unless you're breeding or showing him, yes! you get your pet neutered. It's part of being a responsible pet owner.
