and convert you?

I do!

For my last couple of questions, I've gotten a lot of long answers containing bible information. The thing is I didn't even read it. I just skimmed through it really quickly to see if their is any logic or personal opinion about the issue I asked to be discussed.

Now, if I don't believe in religions why would passages from the bible suddenly change my mind?

I do believe in God but not religions and this is a personal choice.

I'm a Christian and I get tired of all the scripture reciting and whatnot. I do read the bible, but I think when asked a question directed towards faith, it should be answered by the heart, not memorization only. People should be given the chance to experience different faiths, religions by themselves and not have to go through the pressure of someone nagging them all the time to just go for thier faith or set of beliefs alone. I have decided to not follow any religion myself, because of these certain things!

Maybe they are trying to help. Maybe they are going to the text...aka the Bible, to help show their reason. It's to help and not to hinder. The long answers might be an attempt to better explain things and for more clarity. By the way: The title of this query section is RELIGION and spiritually. I assume that's why you're getting religious, Bible based answers. Did you ever write a paper, essay in school? Did they ask for references? So quiting the Bible is wrong? I guess giving references for school papers is too.

I feel you on your question. I think they are not confident in their own answers or need to somehow convince with back up. The Bible is to be interpreted not quoted. Like writing an essay. Put it into words through experience. People may not relate due to the way of the world today. It is a living book which is actually never ending reserved only for people deemed worthy of recording into it. Don't give up the faith. Peace.

Yes, because it is sad that they cannot reason an answer on thier own thoughts but base them solely on the writings of a book that at best can be proven to be over two thousand years old and nothing more. No one can prove that the book was even written by God or Matthew or Luke or John for that matter. I could have written a book and every chapter changed my name from celticfairy to star dust to wolf for that matter. I could have been a schizoprenic writing a diary for that matter and no one could prove it either way, the only proof would be that I wrote it some time in the year 2007. I have said this a thousand times we base the validity of the bible on a bunch of scholars who say so. These scholars only go by the information they know and can only deduce its validity based on speculation of certain factors and not FACT. So when you answer with the bible you are basically answering a question with an unfactual quote to start off with, pretty sad. At least all my answers come from my own thoughts.

You say that you believe in God. Good. But what does God say to you? What has He taught you? Where did you get this information from? Directly from God's mouth or from a book? Christians read and preach God's word - the Bible. That's why many of our answers are from the Bible, because the Bible is God's word. For one to believe in God is great but where do you go from there? What do you believe about God? Where does your knowledge about God come from? Your own personal opinions, your family upbringing, your friends, books, magazines, internet, pamphlets??? No one knows God better than God Himself and the Bible is the Word of God. So maybe you should read the Bible once in while and start to learn about the true God and not the one that you think He is.

Religion(s) are merely a group/community of people that have the same beliefs and traditions. Instead of individuals believing whatever and going about their ways, they have found one another and have joined together in celebration of God (or whichever god they worship). Don't think that religion is man made. God created mankind to know Him and love Him. His choosen people were the Israelites, they were a community. Later called the Hebrews and later called Jews. They are a community of believers in God, a religion, a God has never destroyed them. He made 14 covenants with them and blessed them and their decsendents. The word "religion" itself isn't found in the Bible but it's concept is throughout the Bible and throughout history. Jesus is the Son the God and His followers are called Christians. Jesus appointed Peter to be the head of His church, a religion, and Jesus made a new and the last covenant with His people. I suggest that you start to look at "religion" differently and see that God started it all. And if you believe in God then you are part of a religion.

I supply bible verses for other christians that might want an answer to the question. If you read it or not, doesn't really matter to me. It also shows that we have thought about your questions and took the time to show some referance instead of people thinking that we just made it up.

Slightly. I have already read the bible and proclaimed that I think it's fiction. Trying to prove a point using quotes from the bible for someone who thinks of the book as a fictional piece of work is just pointless. They need to find an alternative.

I also hate long copy & paste answers from some other web page.

Why not just paste the link to the page and allow the asker to view that instead of crowding the whole page. Oh well.
