Vascular disease is the result of an arterial blockage usually stemming from high cholesterol, but not always. If you think of it like a car hose that gets clogged, you can fathom that you can have a clog in only one area and on one side it does not necessarily have to be systemic. The narrowing of the artery can also be caused by damage to the artery at an earlier point in life for example a bad fall or sports injury. Diabetes also is a major cause of peripheral vascular disease and smoking increases your risks as well. Before going and getting a second opinion, I would ask your current vascular MD to review all the test results and data with you so that you can understand possible causes and the facts to back up the diagnosis. If you have doubts that your MD is diagnosing you correctly then I would seek a second opinion if for no other reason than to allay your own fears about misdiagnosis.

It depends on what kind of vascular disease you have. Is it Polyarteritis nodosa, temporal arteritis, or thromboangitis obliterans ? It could also be a begining presentation of an autoimmune disease like Lupus. You should ask you physician these questions. What medications have you been given? Are you on steroids?
