I read several differing opinions on a topic and I always take into account the author's possible bias and agenda. A fact has to pass the test of reason. Is it reasonable that this could be true?Does it have a high probability of being actual? Is there any credible evidence for or against this "fact"?

Bible says to seek council and there is wisdom in council, that is what most leaders of countries do is ask a lot of opinions and then decide. This is the process of book writer and movie makers also to get as many facts as possible to come to an educated decision. Rather than going with the mood of the group you are in?

Fact has evidence in support of it. Fiction (I assume you aren't just talking about literature, here) is something for which there is no evidence, something that a person or group of people invented.

I use the thinking 'hands' of my mind to 'weigh' the evidence. I use those same hands to hold it up to my mind's eye. I feel its shape and texture. I may taste it. I use whatever 'wisdom' I possess as a yardstick. I constantly ask: what does this mean? I try to see it from every angle.
But sometimes, "I just know" :)

only by trying before you buy into it
we are here to learn from our mistakes
test it out in real life
if its good its all good
if it hurts any one [even you ]its wrong [thus a lie.
we can make mistakes ,its how we learn ,
but truth and fiction is dependant on if it makes you better believing .
your freewill must help to make things better ,make you better
if a lie makes you a better person
well god wont tell.
for better or worse.

If it starts with "Once upon a time" or "In the beginning", it's fiction.
