Here is the scenario. I meet this totally awesome guy and invite him over for a drink. I had no clue he is allergic to cats. I have 3 of the little beasts. The poor sexy man is sneezing and miserable and it was too late for Claritan. (although he remained cute lol). What can I do to avoid this again - besides get rid of the cats. Is there a way to mask cat dander? The litter box is in the basement and other than seeing the cats or being allergic, no one would know they are there. Suggestions?

That sucks! I am allergic to cats too. My only suggestion would be to put the cats in the other room for the day. Vacuum like you've never vacuumed before... floors and furniture, while you are doing that...try to open a window, and spray your furniture and carpet with Febreze allergen reducer. Wipe everything down. Do not let the cats in the room after you've done this. Also, look into getting one of these:

I have one and I like it a lot. Leave it running all day before he comes over. Well, that's all I've got for suggestions. Just make sure that when you Febreze, you give it a few hours to dry before you have the hottie over. You can also tell him to take a half dose of Benedryl before he comes over, too. Have fun with tha hottie!

Unfortunately, no matter how much you clean your house or hide the litterbox, if you have cats in your home there will be allergens in the air.

Your best option is to permanantly keep the cats out of certain rooms which have doors so you can quarantine your "hottie" away from the pet dander. Although, if they have ever been in said place, there will be dander for quite some time even after a thorough cleaning.

In order to totally avoid allergic reactions, you're going to have to go someplace else for date night, or have your man prepare with allergy meds beforehand. It would be a nice gesture to buy some Claratin or Benadryl for him and have it on hand for just this type of thing.

This is the true test to see how much he likes you. If he sticks around despite the kitties, you can be sure he's really into you.

If your cats are in the house, he will have allergy problems in your home even if you put the cats outside when he's there, because the allergens are all over the house. The best thing he can do is take allergy medicine before he comes over. Sorry! But it's really not so tragic. I sure wouldn't get rid of the cats yet.

Put the cats outdoors, they will live all yr.outdoors.
Cats and Carpets will make u miserable indoors.
Get some Fabree Allergin and spray the place good if u
decide to keep the cats inside.

You may try an air purifier to clean the air in the house. I've never tired myself but they claim to remove pet dander from the air.
