Try to keep a log of when your tics start happening. When they start to occur write down everything that you can about what was going on, including what you were thinking about at the time. This will help you to at least find the trigger for your tics. After you find what is causing them, you can see a doctor about how to prevent them.

Also keep in mind that your tics may be caused by Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. You should go see a doctor ASAP for clarity and advice on your condition.

Tic disorders

Main article: Tic disorder

Tic disorders occur along a spectrum, ranging from mild to more severe, and are classified according to duration and severity (transient tics, chronic tics, or Tourette syndrome). Tourette syndrome is the more severe expression of a spectrum of tic disorders, which are thought to be due to the same genetic vulnerability. Nevertheless, most cases of Tourette syndrome are not severe. [3] The treatment for the spectrum of tic disorders is similar to the treatment of Tourette syndrome.

[edit] Controversy and confusion

There is some confusion in media portrayals of tics. For example, in comedies, a person with muscle tics may haplessly raise their hand at an obviously inappropriate time and suffer the consequences. This is very implausible: tics are semi-voluntary actions to alleviate the feeling of an unwanted, premonitory urge. One would not thrust his arm in the air as if he were possessed.

Tics must be distinguished from fasciculations. Small twitches of the upper or lower eyelid, for example, are not tics because they don't involve a whole muscle. They are twitches of a few muscle fibre bundles, which you can feel but barely see.

I doubt that any of us out here have the expertise to answer
this question. I can give you my limited knowledge on the
subject. Tics happen a lot in young men BUT it usually
subsides around the age you are now. Tics usually come
due to stress or when one is uncomfortable in his situation.
I say him, because I haven't seen it in females. Most adolescent males think they MUST BE cool at all times and
know the right answer to everything. NOT!. Since they don't
know the right answer their body starts fidgeting.
A very common one is bounding the knee when a male
is bored. My son used to drive me nuts with that one.

I personally believe that with the maturing process, so comes
self-confidence and the tics seem to melt away.
BUT it wouldn't hurt to have a physical work-up and see
what's going on. One caution: the medical profession
is prescribing (man I'm getting into deep water here)
anti-depressents to young males that I believe are dangerous. Before starting on a series of new drugs--check
them out first on the web.

When I get stressed out, I get a muscle spasm in my right eye. I get rid of it by de-stressing, and taking my mind off it... I treat it like the hiccups. And it goes away.
